This role combines infrastructure support, Java application support, automation, operational excellence, and continuous service improvement.\nThe successful candidate will be responsible for resolving complex incidents and service requests, performing root cause analysis, maintaining platform stability, supporting business-critical Java applications, and driving automation initiatives using modern scripting and configuration management tools.\nThis is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who is passionate about improving services, reducing operational overhead through automation, enhancing monitoring and observability, and building strong customer relationships through clear communication and technical leadership.\nThe budgeted salary for this role is up to 120k AUD per annum please superannuation.\nThis is a remote role. Please note that whilst you do not need to live in Sydney for this role, you will at least live within the Eastern Coast time zone due to the client requirement.\nResponsibilities\nProvide 2nd and 3rd line support for Linux infrastructure and hosted applications.\nTake ownership of incidents, service requests, problems, and changes through to resolution.\nSupport and troubleshoot Java-based applications and associated middleware platforms.\nPerform root cause analysis (RCA) on complex incidents and recurring issues.\nAnalyse customer environments to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.\nCarry out Linux patching, upgrades, migrations, and security remediation activities.\nDesign, develop, and maintain automation solutions to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.\nImprove monitoring, alerting, and observability across customer environments.\nEnsure platform stability, high availability, backup, recovery, and overall operational health.\nCollaborate with security and operational teams to investigate security events, alerts, and vulnerabilities.\nManage escalations and provide technical leadership during major incidents.\nProduce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles.\nMentor junior engineers and contribute to overall team development.\nParticipate in an out-of-hours on-call rota and major incident response.\nWork closely with customers, architects, and operational teams to deliver continuous service improvement.\nQualifications and Experience\nEssential Experience\nProven experience in Linux administration within enterprise production environments (5+ years preferred).\nExperience providing 2nd and 3rd line technical support.\nExperience supporting Java-based applications in production environments.\nStrong experience with Ansible Automation Platform, including playbook development and configuration management.\nExperience working within Azure cloud environments.\nStrong troubleshooting skills across systems, applications, middleware, and infrastructure.\nProven ability to perform root cause analysis and problem management.\nExperience within managed services environments.\nExperience participating in production support and on-call rotations.\nTechnical Skills\nLinux platforms and administration: RHEL, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, LVM, user and access management, PAM\nAutomation and scripting: Ansible, Bash, Python, PowerShell\nApplication and web platform support: Java application support, Apache HTTPD, NGINX\nCloud and infrastructure: Azure infrastructure services, Azure networking, Network Security Groups, high availability, load balancing\nSecurity and resilience: SSL/TLS certificates, cryptography, backup, recovery, logging, replication\nOperations and performance: performance troubleshooting, monitoring, alerting, and observability tools\nDesirable Skills\nContainerisation and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes\nMonitoring and analytics: Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Kibana\nData and platform technologies: Apache Spark, Cassandra\nDevOps and delivery: Git, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code\nService management: ITIL\nAbout Us:\nWe are the tech company with people at heart.\nAt Advania, we believe in empowering people to create sustainable value through the clever use of technology.
