Gathers a comprehensive patient history, appropriate information from patient, patient's records and family members to include neurological symptomatology and medications. Explains test procedures to patient and family members.\nPerforms procedures according to the laboratory standards and implements alternative methods and/or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings. This may include appropriate control setting changes on the equipment, use of extra electrodes, extra montages and use of activation procedures.\nRecognizes patient or environmental artifact. Documents, eliminates or takes proper measure to monitor the artifact.\nDevises and standardizes neurodiagnostic tests for clinic use.\nMay perform Intraoperative Monitoring with supervision.\nMay perform ambulatory EEG monitoring, EEG monitoring during intracarotid Sodium Amytal procedures (WADAS), Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMUs), Evoke Potentials and other modalities of testing based on site specific needs.\nMay assist physicians in outpatient department clinics with Nerve Conduction Studies and EMGs based on site specific needs\nPerforms Cerebral Death Evaluation studies.\nMay perform TCD (transcranial ultra sound of the Circle of Willis) based on site specific needs.\nTroubleshoots equipment problems and repairs or reports to supervisor immediately.\nMust be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.\nLicensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:\nElectroencephalographic Technologist registration (R EEG T) issued by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) needs to be obtained within 1 year, and\nBasic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.\nEducation Required:\nHigh School Graduate.\nExperience Required:\nTypically requires 2 years of experience in a Neurodiagnostic Tech role.\nKnowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:\nExcellent interpersonal and patient service skills.\nIntermediate computer skills.\nPhysical Requirements and Working Conditions:\nAbility to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.\nPosition requires travel.
