Supervises the implementation of enterprise laboratory strategies and standards through close collaboration with site leaders. Ensures peak laboratory operations by driving optimization of resources, financial performance, growth, safety, teammate engagement, and quality in achieving Advocate Health goals and objectives including planning, monitoring, and implementing laboratory operations in a cost effective, quality and service-oriented manner.\nMajor Responsibilities:\nAssumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the department including providing work direction, expertise, and guidance to the staff. Oversees the clinical laboratory testing, evaluation of results, and the proficiency of testing. \nActively participates in projects to meet strategic initiatives including implementation and development of quantitative outcomes. \nMonitors budget compliance. Analyzes laboratory fiscal needs, and departmental performance and takes action to address variances. \nCollaborates and implements performance improvement processes to optimize teammate engagement, and physician and patient satisfaction. \nEnsures quality, regulatory, accreditation, compliance and competency standards are met. Ensures compliance with current policies, procedures, and standardization and/or consolidation decisions. \nCoordinates orientation, training, and competency testing of staff and/or students. Maintains competency, as needed, in test systems and processes in defined discipline for area of responsibility. Serves as a technical resource for staff. \nComplies with the quality plan by implementing and monitoring quality indicators. Reviews laboratory results for quality, accuracy and validity. Documents and implements corrective action as appropriate. \nSelects, coaches, and develops team. Sets clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manages performance by recognizing achievement, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary. Recommends hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations. \nResponsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that people actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business. \nLicensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:\nMedical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) BOC), or \nMedical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent accrediting agency. \nEducation Required:\nBachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technologyor equivalent \nExperience Required:\nTypically requires 3 years of experience intechnicallaboratory services and operations.\nKnowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:\n Demonstrated leadership skills including project management, decision making, delegation, team building, customer service, and conflict resolution. \nAbility to grow leaders through coaching, guidance, and development planning. \nAdvanced knowledge of regulatory compliance, accrediting and licensing agency requirements. \nCurrent knowledge of medical and technical advancements to plan for future growth and development. \nIntermediate computer skills including knowledge and experience with laboratory information systems. \nExcellent organization and communication skills. \nPhysical Requirements and Working Conditions:\nOperates all equipment necessary to perform the job. \nFrequently lifts up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs. \nMust be able to sit, stand, walk, twist and bend the majority of the workday. \nMay be exposed to mechanical, electrical, and/or infectious agents. \nWill be exposed to human blood and body fluids. \nMust wear appropriate safety protection, i.e. laboratory coats, gloves, gowns and/or eye protection. \nMust be able to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner. \nMay be required to travel, therefore may be exposed to inclement weather and adverse road conditions. \nThis job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
