Join us.\n AECOM is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern to join our Roanoke, VA office. This role is designed for a student who has completed three years of study and is ready to apply their coursework to real building and infrastructure projects. You will work alongside licensed engineers and designers, build practical design and coordination skills, and see how projects move from concept to construction.\nThis position is expected to begin in May 2027.\nThe responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:\nAssist with electrical design tasks under the guidance of engineers and project managers\nPrepare basic calculations, sketches, and markups for electrical plans, details, and diagrams\nDraft and update electrical drawings using Revit and AutoCAD\nCollect, organize, and summarize project data, including equipment information, code requirements, and site conditions\nSupport the preparation of reports, technical narratives, specifications, and meeting notes\nAssist with quantity takeoffs and review of shop drawings and RFIs alongside senior staff\nParticipate in site visits and construction observation when opportunities arise\nCoordinate with other disciplines on the team to support project delivery\nWork within project schedules, safety expectations, and quality standards\nAreas of Exposure\nYou will not be expected to know these coming in. Depending on project needs, you may gain exposure to:\nPower distribution (low and medium voltage), transformers, and switchboards\nEmergency and standby power, including generators and UPS systems\nLighting design and lighting controls\nGrounding, lightning protection, overcurrent protection, and surge protection\nFire alarm and building electrical systems\nElectrical analysis software such as SKM, ETAP, and AGi32\nMinimum Requirements:\nCandidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and must have completed at least 3 years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship\nPreferred Qualifications:\nInterest in building systems, power distribution, or infrastructure projects\nAbility to work well in a team\nClear written and verbal communication\nAttention to detail and a willingness to learn\nAbility to manage tasks and meet deadlines\nWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office\nPrior exposure to Revit, AutoCAD, or similar design tools\nCoursework or project experience in power systems, circuits, or electrical design\nPrior internship, co-op, or hands-on technical experience\nExperience and interest in using AI assistants to help write scripts, build spreadsheets or small tools, or streamline repetitive engineering tasks, with good judgment about verifying the results\n Relocation assistance is not available for this position.\nSponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.\nThis position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Roanoke, VA.
