Join us.\n About the Role\nAECOM is looking for talented and motivated apprentices to join our Highways and Streets practice across the UK and Ireland (UK&I). As the largest dedicated team within the practice in the UK&I, our Belfast team works on a diverse range of projects focused on creating safer, more efficient and sustainable transport networks for communities.\nOur work covers the development and appraisal of practical solutions for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles, including road and street design, traffic signals, cycle facilities, traffic management and traffic modelling. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and other technical professionals in multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions for our clients.\nProjects range from concept and preliminary design through to modelling, detailed design and implementation, giving you the opportunity to gain experience across the full project lifecycle. The role is fast-paced and collaborative, requiring creativity, technical capability, strong communication and a willingness to learn.\nWhat You’ll Do\nAs an Engineering Apprentice, you’ll be supported by experienced engineers who will provide guidance and mentoring as you develop your technical knowledge and professional skills. You’ll work on live projects and receive structured training to help you build a strong foundation in traffic engineering and design.\nYour initial responsibilities will typically include supporting the development of designs and technical solutions through different project stages, attending site visits, meetings and workshops, and working collaboratively with clients and other design professionals.\nYou’ll receive training in relevant engineering and design software, which may include AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and others, depending on project requirements. You’ll also develop your understanding of digital engineering and BIM processes.\nAs your experience and confidence grow, you’ll take on increasing responsibility for project tasks and technical deliverables, with opportunities to contribute to projects from inception through to completion.\nYou may gain experience across a variety of projects, including:\nHighway and street design\nJunction and intersection design\nCycle lane and active travel design\nBus priority and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) schemes\nGreenway design\nStreetscape and urban improvement projects\nFeasibility studies and scheme development\nRoad safety assessments and audits\n This role is ideal for school leavers with GCSEs, A-Levels or equivalent qualifications who can demonstrate:\nA minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including Mathematics and English.\nThree A-Levels (or equivalent, such as a BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering), including Mathematics and a physical science at grade C or above, where required for the Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship.\nAn interest in traffic, transport or civil engineering and a desire to build a career in the industry.\nAn aptitude for technical software, engineering design and drawing, with an interest in tools such as AutoCAD or 3D modelling software.\nBasic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.\nAn interest in transport, sustainability and the development of safer, more accessible streets and communities.\nStrong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.\nGood written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate initiative when working independently.\nEnthusiasm, adaptability and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.\nCommitment to continuous learning and professional development.\nA creative and practical approach to problem-solving.\n Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible since CVs will be reviewed, and candidates selected for an advanced offer start. \nPlease include a covering letter with your application and provide all predicted and/or obtained academic grades. \nYou must have permanent right to work in the UK as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position. \nAt AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
