AECOM is seeking an Environmental Scientist based in Kitchener, Markham, Mississauga, or Hamilton, Ontario.

This position is expected begin either in January or May 2027.

The successful candidate will support engineers and scientists in carrying out environmental site assessments. Field work is an integral component of this position, and it is important that the applicant must be willing to travel to various job sites.

This is a new position that will also involve assisting in all aspects of environmental projects including field preparation, subcontractor co-ordination and report preparation.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Supporting environmental site assessments and monitoring programs by applying basic scientific principles, established methods, and standard operating procedures.
• Conducting groundwater monitoring and sampling activities, including purging and collecting groundwater samples from monitoring wells using low-flow sampling equipment and field instrumentation.
• Collecting, recording, and organizing environmental field data and observations in accordance with established procedures and project requirements.
• Assisting with drilling oversight activities, including oversight of subcontractors, ground disturbance procedures, soil logging and sampling, and monitoring well installation.
• Maintaining high-quality field documentation, including preparing organized, detailed field notes, recording observations, and completing daily reports and logs accurately.
• Contributing to health and safety planning and execution, including participation in field gate/field safety meetings, recognizing hazards, implementing safe work practices, and supporting subcontractor oversight in the field.
• Compiling and entering field and laboratory data, including conducting basic data analysis and comparisons to applicable regulatory guidelines under direction from senior staff.
• Assisting with subcontractor coordination, field preparation (equipment readiness, calibration, and logistics), and site mobilization/demobilization.
• Drafting technical deliverables (tables, figures, and sections of reports) using standard office software; supporting senior engineers and scientists in interpreting data and preparing comprehensive summary reports.
• Communicating effectively with internal project teams, escalating issues promptly, contributing to team-based problem solving on well-structured assignments.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Willingness and ability to perform extensive fieldwork, including working outdoors in varied weather conditions and travelling to project sites within Ontario.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate field documentation.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Valid and unrestricted Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous internship, co-op, or field experience supporting groundwater monitoring and sampling, including low-flow equipment and field parameter measurement.
• Familiarity with drilling oversight, ground disturbance procedures, soil logging, and monitoring well installation (considered an asset).
• Strong technical writing and proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Excel for data tables/QA-QC, Word for report drafting).
• Certifications or trainings such as WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, or other relevant H&S training (assets).
• Eligibility for or enrollment as a GIT (Geoscientist-in-Training) or interest in working toward professional certification with Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) and/or Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).

• Relocation is not available for this position.
• Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
