Join us.\n AECOM has an opportunity for an Environmental Technician II to join our Remediation team in Billings, Montana. The employee will initially support a federal vapor intrusion mitigation project involving occupied residential properties. Work will primarily occur in Billings, with periodic travel to other locations in Montana and surrounding states.\nThe successful candidate will communicate effectively with the project team, clients, site personnel, residents, and office management and will work as part of a project team. After training, the technician may independently complete routine assigned tasks under established direction. The technician will follow approved safety and quality procedures, protect property and resident privacy, comply with access restrictions, complete required field checks, maintain accurate electronic records, and promptly report deficiencies or concerns.\nThe role requires strong mechanical aptitude, safe equipment use, accurate field documentation, and professional communication in occupied residences. Duties include indoor and outdoor air sampling; subslab soil vapor and crawlspace sampling; pressure measurements; vapor intrusion mitigation system inspections; installation and startup support; operations and maintenance; repairs; and maintenance of property records. The technician will perform work within their training and authorization and will support qualified personnel and licensed trade contractors as required.\nThe job responsibilities for the position will include but are not limited to the following:\nAssist with indoor and outdoor air sampling; subslab soil vapor and crawlspace sampling; sample packaging; and chain-of-custody documentation in accordance with approved procedures.\nAssist with vapor intrusion mitigation system inspections, installation support, system startup, operations and maintenance, and repairs in occupied residential properties.\nCollect subslab and system pressure measurements, record equipment readings, and complete routine field checks.\nSupport qualified personnel and licensed trade contractors with piping, electrical components, fans, sealing, restoration, and related work within the technician’s training and authorization.\nAfter training, independently complete routine assigned sampling, inspection, maintenance, equipment-reading, and documentation tasks under established direction.\nMaintain accurate electronic field documentation, photographs, property records, and daily field notes.\nCommunicate professionally with residents; protect property and privacy; and comply with access windows, site restrictions, and approved work procedures.\nReport field observations, system conditions, deficiencies, resident concerns, and safety issues to the designated project lead.\nMaintain field equipment, tools, supplies, and assigned vehicles and use equipment safely.\nSupport other environmental field assignments, which may include sampling, inspections, equipment operation, maintenance, and project documentation.\nPerform work within assigned responsibilities. To support this commitment, all newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.\n Minimum Requirements\nHigh School Diploma AND at least two years of relevant experience in environmental fieldwork, mechanical maintenance, construction, facilities maintenance, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), radon mitigation, or a demonstrated equivalency of education and experiences. \nDue to the Nature of the work and sites: Candidates must be a US Citizen or Permanend Resident. Sponsorship for this role at this time or in the future will not be available. \nA Valid U.S. driver’s license is required, along with ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records Check (MVR) in accordance with company policy. \nAs a condition of employment, candidates must pass a drug and alcohol screening.\nAbility to meet applicable medical surveillance requirements, including an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) medical examination, respiratory clearance, and fit testing when required for assigned work.\nPreferred Qualifications\nAbility to conduct fieldwork primarily in Billings, with periodic travel to other locations in Montana and surrounding states.\nStrong mechanical aptitude; ability to use field equipment safely; and ability to maintain accurate electronic field documentation.\nAbility to work professionally in occupied residential properties while protecting property and privacy and complying with access restrictions.\nAbility to work outdoors, including in inclement weather conditions. \nPrior experience with vapor intrusion mitigation systems, including sampling, inspections, installation, startup, operations and maintenance, or repairs.\nCurrent OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and applicable annual eight-hour refresher training. AECOM will provide and pay for required training before assignment to work requiring that training.\nCurrent First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) certification. AECOM will provide and pay for required training.\nCurrent OSHA 30-hour Construction training, if required for assigned work. AECOM will provide and pay for required training.\nExperience with groundwater sampling and gauging techniques, including low-flow purge, no-purge, and conventional methods, for other environmental assignments.\n Physical Requirements\nWith or without reasonable accommodation, the employee must be able to work outdoors on uneven terrain and in variable conditions, including heat, noise, and potential chemical exposure, and to enter crawlspaces and limited-access areas when properly trained, authorized, and medically qualified.\nFrequently lift equipment or objects weighing 25 pounds or less without assistance. \nOccasionally bend, stoop, use hand tools and levers, work with arms above shoulder level, climb stairs, and use portable ladders to perform maintenance, inspections, measurements, or readings.\nWear required personal protective equipment, which may include safety glasses or goggles, safety footwear, a hard hat, face shield, respirator, and hearing protection.\nAdditional Information\nRelocation is not available for this position.\nAt AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
