Join us.\n About the Role\nAECOM is looking for talented and motivated graduates to join our Highways and Streets practice across the UK and Ireland (UK&I). As the largest dedicated team within the practice in the UK&I, our Belfast team works on a diverse range of projects focused on creating safer, more efficient and sustainable transport networks for communities.\nOur work covers the development and appraisal of practical solutions for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles, including road and street design, traffic signals, cycle facilities, traffic management and traffic modelling. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and other technical professionals in multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions for our clients.\nProjects range from concept and preliminary design through to modelling, detailed design and implementation, giving you the opportunity to gain experience across the full project lifecycle. The role is fast-paced and collaborative, requiring creativity, technical capability, strong communication and a willingness to learn.\nWhat You’ll Do\nAs a Graduate Engineer, you’ll be supported by experienced engineers who will provide guidance and mentoring as you develop your technical knowledge and professional skills. You’ll work on live projects and receive structured training to help you build a strong foundation in traffic engineering and design.\nYour initial responsibilities will typically include supporting the development of designs and technical solutions through different project stages, attending site visits, meetings and workshops, and working collaboratively with clients and other design professionals.\nYou’ll receive training in relevant engineering and design software, which may include AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and others, depending on project requirements. You’ll also develop your understanding of digital engineering and BIM processes.\nAs your experience and confidence grow, you’ll take on increasing responsibility for project tasks and technical deliverables, with opportunities to contribute to projects from inception through to completion.\nYou may gain experience across a variety of projects, including:\nHighway and street design\nJunction and intersection design\nCycle lane and active travel design\nBus priority and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) schemes\nGreenway design\nStreetscape and urban improvement projects\nFeasibility studies and scheme development\nRoad safety assessments and audits\n BEng in Civil Engineering, General Engineering or Geography, with a 2:1 (or equivalent) or above.\nMEng in Civil Engineering or General Engineering, with a 2:1 (or equivalent) or above, would be advantageous.\nMA/MSc in Geography, Transport Planning or a related discipline would be advantageous.\nA relevant Master’s degree in Mathematics or another quantitative discipline would also be considered.\nGenuine interest in engineering, transport and the development of safe, efficient and sustainable transport networks.\nStrong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and evaluate technical information.\nBasic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.\nGood technical and report-writing skills.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders.\nAbility to structure and prioritise work effectively while contributing to the wider team.\nAbility to work collaboratively and independently, demonstrating initiative, focus and a willingness to learn.\nEnthusiastic, technically minded and motivated, with ambition and drive.\nCommitment to continuous learning and professional development.\n Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible since CVs will be reviewed, and candidates selected for an advanced offer start. \nPlease include a covering letter with your application and provide all predicted and/or obtained academic grades. \nYou must have permanent right to work in the UK as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position. \nAt AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
