Join us.\n AECOM is seeking to hire a highly skilled Junior Level Mechanical Engineer for the Data Center and Mission Critical team for our east region. This role will support the design, coordination, documentation, and delivery of mechanical systems for data center and other mission-critical facilities and will work under the guidance of senior engineers and helps ensure systems meet performance, reliability, energy efficiency, and operational requirements.\nThis position offers the flexibility of a remote work schedule and can be based from a variety of locations in the US where AECOM has an office.\nAlthough the position is primarily remote periodic travel may be required for client meetings, key project milestones, onsite collaboration sessions, or other business-critical activities. Travel is expected to be occasional and scheduled in advance.\nKey Responsibilities:\nMechanical Systems Design\nAssist in the design and development of HVAC, cooling, ventilation, and mechanical utility systems for data centers and mission-critical facilities.\nSupport the design of chilled water systems, cooling towers, pumps, piping networks, air handling units, and computer room air conditioning (CRAC) or computer room air handler (CRAH) systems.\nAssist with cooling strategies for high-density server environments, including liquid cooling and other advanced cooling technologies, as applicable.\nPerform preliminary engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and load assessments under the direction of senior engineers.\nEngineering Calculations and Analysis\nSupport mechanical load calculations, heat rejection analysis, airflow calculations, and hydronic system sizing.\nAssist with evaluating system redundancy and reliability requirements, including N+1 and 2N configurations.\nSupport energy efficiency assessments and mechanical system performance evaluations.\nHelp review equipment selections and technical specifications for compliance with project requirements.\nDesign Documentation and Deliverables\nPrepare and update mechanical drawings, schematics, equipment schedules, and design documentation.\nAssist with developing construction documents, design narratives, technical specifications, and equipment schedules.\nUse engineering software and design tools, such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and relevant HVAC calculation programs.\nIncorporate engineering markups and revisions into drawings and models.\nMultidisciplinary Coordination\nCoordinate mechanical designs with electrical, structural, architectural, plumbing, fire protection, and controls teams.\nAssist with identifying and resolving spatial conflicts and design clashes using BIM models and coordination tools such as Navisworks.\nParticipate in design coordination meetings and track outstanding technical issues.\nSupport coordination of mechanical equipment layouts, piping routes, ductwork, and equipment access requirements.\nData Center and Mission-Critical Requirements\nDevelop an understanding of the reliability, availability, and redundancy requirements associated with mission-critical facilities.\nSupport designs that maintain appropriate temperature, humidity, and environmental conditions for IT equipment.\nAssist with mechanical system layouts and configurations that support continuous operations and maintainability.\nUnderstand the importance of equipment redundancy, system resilience, maintainability, and phased construction in operational data centers.\nConstruction and Project Support\nAssist with reviewing contractor submittals, equipment shop drawings, and requests for information (RFIs).\nSupport responses to construction-related technical questions under the supervision of senior engineers.\nParticipate in site visits, construction observations, equipment inspections, and commissioning activities as needed.\nHelp document field observations, design discrepancies, and corrective actions.\nCodes, Standards, and Quality\nApply applicable building codes, mechanical codes, energy codes, and project-specific design standards under senior engineering guidance.\nAssist with quality checks of calculations, drawings, and specifications.\nMaintain accurate engineering documentation and support compliance with client requirements and internal quality procedures.\n Minimum Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline and no experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.\nFamiliarity with HVAC principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. Exposure to AutoCAD, Revit MEP, BIM coordination, or HVAC calculation tools.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.\nInterest in data center infrastructure, critical cooling systems, energy efficiency, and mission-critical engineering design.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExposure to data center, healthcare, semiconductor, laboratory, industrial, or other mission-critical projects.
