AECOM is an American infrastructure consulting firm that became independent in 1990 through a management buyout from the energy group Ashland, and is now one of the largest design and engineering organisations in the world. It plans, designs and manages delivery of transport systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, buildings, environmental remediation and energy projects for public agencies and private developers across roughly one hundred and fifty countries. Headquartered in Dallas after relocating from Los Angeles, the company sold its self-perform construction and government services arms to concentrate on higher-margin professional services rather than carrying construction risk.

Come grow with us.

AECOM is involved in the most interesting and challenging transport infrastructure projects that are shaping the landscape around us and defining the future of Australia and NZ. We live and breathe culture, making sure our lives are integrated with our professional development and we actively enjoy the journey.

We are seeking a Marine Structural Engineer to support the planning, analysis, design and delivery of marine and port infrastructure.

Working alongside coastal, geotechnical, civil and environmental specialists, you will contribute across feasibility studies, concept development, detailed design, construction support and asset management.

This role offers a varied mix of new infrastructure design and assessment of existing assets, including ports, wharves, jetties, berthing facilities, offshore structures and coastal assets.

How you’ll make a difference

  • Undertake structural analysis and design for wharves, jetties, berthing and mooring structures, dolphins, fender systems, marine retaining walls and offshore infrastructure.

  • Assess vessel berthing and mooring loads, wave and environmental loading, seismic effects, fatigue and durability.

  • Develop concept, preliminary and detailed designs, preparing engineering calculations, reports, specifications and construction documentation.

  • Conduct marine asset inspections and structural condition assessments, recommending rehabilitation works and supporting asset life extension and lifecycle planning.

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver engineering solutions that meet quality, safety, budget and programme requirements.

  • Provide construction and commissioning support, including reviewing contractor submissions, shop drawings and temporary works designs.

  • Build client relationships and contribute to proposals, tenders and the growth of our marine infrastructure portfolio in Western Australia.

The qualities that help you thrive

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.

What are we looking for from you?

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Relevant experience in structural analysis and design of marine, port or waterfront infrastructure.

  • An understanding of marine loading conditions, structural behaviour and the durability requirements of structures in marine environments.

  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications and design documentation.

  • Familiarity with relevant engineering standards and structural analysis software.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

  • A practical approach to problem solving and a commitment to safe, high quality engineering outcomes.

Experience in marine asset inspections, condition assessments, rehabilitation design or construction support will be highly regarded.

Why you’ll love working with us

  • Flexible work arrangements, including alternative start/finish times, job-sharing and hybrid work options

  • Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year

  • Volunteer and representation leave

  • Flex public holidays - swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better
