AECOM is an American infrastructure consulting firm that became independent in 1990 through a management buyout from the energy group Ashland, and is now one of the largest design and engineering organisations in the world. It plans, designs and manages delivery of transport systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, buildings, environmental remediation and energy projects for public agencies and private developers across roughly one hundred and fifty countries. Headquartered in Dallas after relocating from Los Angeles, the company sold its self-perform construction and government services arms to concentrate on higher-margin professional services rather than carrying construction risk.

AECOM is seeking a Safety, Health, and Environment Field Specialist to provide on-the-ground support for Oil & Gas and Remediation projects. This role focuses on ensuring safe field execution through real-time observation, site engagement, and incident response. The successful candidate will serve as the “eyes and ears” on project sites, helping to identify and mitigate risks, conduct site visits, and support a strong safety culture across active operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as on-site safety representative providing continuous field-level support and oversight.
  • Conduct routine and unscheduled site visits to monitor compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the “eyes and ears on the ground,” identifying hazards and working with field teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Support and participate in incident investigations, including root cause analysis and documentation.
  • Perform Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) to ensure readiness and compliance prior to operational activities.
  • Assist with safety audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance checks.
  • Communicate safety expectations and reinforce best practices with field personnel and subcontractors.
  • Maintain accurate records of site observations, incidents, and safety activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma and 4+ years of experience supporting safety, health, and environment activities in field-based Oil & Gas or remediation projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass client-specific background and drug & alcohol screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of field safety experience in Oil & Gas, construction, or environmental remediation settings.
  • Professional certifications such as OSHA 30, CHST, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience conducting incident investigations and PSSR processes.
  • Strong understanding of field safety practices, hazard recognition, and mitigation techniques.
  • Ability to work independently in dynamic and potentially remote field environments.
  • No sponsorship will be provided now or in the future for this role.

At AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously. To support this commitment, all newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.
