Join us.\n Senior Environmental Scientist/Project Manager - Mine Remediation, Western Canada\nJob Description\nAECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Scientist/Project Manager to join our growing Western Canada remediation team in Whitehorse, Yukon. Reporting to the Faro Mine Project Director, you will participate in the delivery of major mine site remediation portfolios in northern Canada. Collaborating with multidisciplinary internal and external teams, you will play a key role in advancing some of Canada’s largest and most complex remediation projects.\nThis is a unique leadership opportunity to shape the future of our projects while driving the growth and success of AECOM’s Environmental business across the territories. You will contribute to delivering high-quality projects, fostering business growth, and enhancing AECOM’s reputation for technical excellence in Canada and globally.\nThis position will support the delivery of major mine remediation and environmental restoration programs across Canada's northern territories. The role encompasses project leadership, multidisciplinary team coordination, client engagement, contract administration, project controls oversight, and support for environmental assessment and regulatory processes. The successful candidate will work closely with technical specialists, contractors, Indigenous communities, regulatory agencies, and clients to advance complex remediation programs from planning through implementation.\nOur preferred candidate is a collaborative and results-oriented professional who enjoys solving complex challenges and leading high-performing teams. Experience delivering large-scale projects in remote northern environments, managing multiple stakeholders and rights holders, and navigating complex regulatory and Indigenous consultation requirements will be highly valued.\nHybrid work options are available to provide the flexibility you need to excel. This is a full-time position offering an exciting opportunity to working on some of Canada's most significant mine closure and remediation programs.\nResponsibilities\nBelow are example responsibilities you can expect when working within the AECOM team to deliver all phases of major mine remediation programs:\nLead the planning, execution, and delivery of mine remediation and environmental management projects throughout all project phases.\nDevelop and maintain project management plans, schedules, budgets, risk registers, and resource forecasts.\nCoordinate multidisciplinary teams consisting of environmental, civil, geotechnical, hydrotechnical, permitting, and project controls specialists.\nManage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk while ensuring contractual obligations are met.\nLead client interactions and maintain effective communication with project stakeholders, regulators, Indigenous governments and organizations, and contractors.\nSupport procurement and contract management activities, including development of scopes of work, evaluation of proposals, and oversight of subcontractor performance.\nCollaborate with project controls teams to monitor project performance, forecast costs, track progress, and support reporting requirements.\nSupport environmental assessment, permitting, licensing, and regulatory review processes associated with mine remediation projects.\nFacilitate project meetings, workshops, and risk reviews, ensuring actions are tracked and completed.\nPrepare and review project reports, presentations, status updates, and executive-level communications.\nProvide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to project managers, coordinators, and technical staff.\nLead proposal preparation, business development initiatives, and strategic growth opportunities within AECOM's Northern remediation practice.\nPromote AECOM's quality, health and safety, environmental, and project management standards across project teams.\nTravel periodically to project sites across northern Canada to support project delivery and client engagement.\nMinimum Requirements\nBachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, Project Management, Natural Resources, or a related discipline.\n10+ years of experience managing complex projects in the mining, environmental remediation, infrastructure, resource development, or heavy civil sectors.\nDemonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating activities across multiple stakeholders.\nExperience developing and managing project schedules, budgets, risks, contracts, and project controls processes.\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills.\nValid driver's licence and willingness to travel to remote project locations.\nPreferred Qualifications\nBelow are examples of experience that would be an asset when working in this position:\n20+ years of project delivery experience.\nProven experience managing large-scale projects valued at $30M+.\nProject Management Professional (PMP) designation.\nExperience delivering projects in northern or remote environments.\nExperience supporting major mine remediation, mine closure, environmental restoration, or resource development projects.\nDemonstrated success working with Indigenous governments, communities, and rights holders.\nExperience managing consultants, contractors, and procurement processes for major projects.\nFamiliarity with environmental assessment processes, permitting, licensing, and regulatory compliance requirements.\nExperience overseeing project controls functions, including cost management, forecasting, scheduling, and risk management.\nStrong leadership capabilities with a demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.\nMBA, Master's degree, or other advanced professional qualifications.\nExisting relationships within western and northern Canadian mining, remediation, and environmental sectors.\n At AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
