AECOM is an American infrastructure consulting firm that became independent in 1990 through a management buyout from the energy group Ashland, and is now one of the largest design and engineering organisations in the world. It plans, designs and manages delivery of transport systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, buildings, environmental remediation and energy projects for public agencies and private developers across roughly one hundred and fifty countries. Headquartered in Dallas after relocating from Los Angeles, the company sold its self-perform construction and government services arms to concentrate on higher-margin professional services rather than carrying construction risk.

We're one global team driven by our common purpose to deliver a better world. Join us.

Here’s what you’ll do:

We are looking to enhance and grow our Electrification & Power team with a Senior Rail Traction Power / Substation Engineer.

You will have delivered rail projects to client satisfaction at the appropriate standard, ensuring accuracy of drawings and calculations, and that designs are cost-effective, constructable and compliant with relevant codes and standards.

You will join a growing team delivering traction power and substation projects across the UK, with opportunities to support international projects. Our work spans the full project lifecycle from feasibility studies and outline design through to detailed design and construction support.

You will take responsibility for technical delivery across key projects, operating at Independent Checker level and supporting the development of engineers within the team.

Provide Expertise

Be responsible for technical oversight and delivery of design packages across multiple project stages. Contribute to the continued development of traction power and substation capability within the Electrification & Power team.

Collaborate

Receive briefs from the Project Manager and coordinate technical delivery across the project team. Provide guidance and support to designers, early careers and junior engineers. Liaise with clients and stakeholders as required.

Ensure Quality

Develop concept and detailed design documentation including calculations, reports and specifications. Undertake independent technical checks of calculations, drawings and reports to ensure compliance with relevant standards and project requirements. Review and provide technical guidance on design outputs produced by others.

Anticipate

Undertake site visits and surveys to gather information to inform design development. Develop and review project specifications for construction and provide construction stage design support where required. Attend site during the construction phase if necessary to ensure works are delivered in accordance with design intent. You will have a strong understanding of Health & Safety and CDM requirements.

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Experience in traction power and high voltage substation design.
  • Experience delivering projects across feasibility, outline and detailed design stages.
  • Experience acting as CRE / Lead Engineer is advantageous. Where prior CRE experience has not been gained, support and mentoring will be provided to enable progression to that level of responsibility.
  • Strong understanding of relevant industry standards and design governance.
  • Low voltage experience desirable but not essential.
