Join us.\n We are seeking a Senior Roadway Design Project Manager to lead and manage NCDOT and municipal roadway design projects from planning and preliminary engineering through final design and construction support. This role emphasizes overall project management, quality assurance, client relationship management, and staff mentorship, while maintaining technical oversight of roadway design deliverables.\nThe Senior Roadway Design Project Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for clients and agencies, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with NCDOT standards and contractual requirements.\nResponsibilities include but are not limited to:\nManage roadway and highway design projects for NCDOT and municipal clients, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource planning\nServe as primary client and agency liaison; lead coordination with NCDOT, municipalities, subconsultants, and stakeholders\nOversee development of roadway design deliverables, ensuring technical quality and consistency with agency standards\nLead and implement quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) processes throughout project lifecycles\nCoordinate multidisciplinary teams including roadway, drainage, traffic, structures, utilities, survey, and environmental staff\nMentor junior engineers and project staff; support staff development, performance feedback, and workload planning\nReview and approve design calculations, plan sets, and supporting documentation\nSupport proposal development, fee estimates, contract negotiations, and business development efforts\nMonitor project risks, manage changes, and proactively address issues that may impact delivery\nParticipate in public meetings, agency reviews, and project presentations as required\n Minimum Requirements:\nBachelor's degree in civil engineering, or related field plus 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months\n6 years of roadway design experience, including exposure to DOT or municipal projects.\nValid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review\nDue to the nature of the projects a US Citizenship is required \nPreferred Qualifications:\nDemonstrated experience managing NCDOT and/or municipal roadway design projects\nWorking knowledge of NCDOT policies, design manuals, and PS&E development\nExpereinced with roadway design and project coordination tools\n6 years of strong understanding of NCDOT policies, design manuals, and PS&E development\n10 years of progressive roadway design and project management experience\nExperience managing on-call contracts or alternative delivery projects (e.g., design-build).\nFamiliarity with ProjectWise, Bluebeam, scheduling software, and cost tracking tools\nStrong leadership, communication, and client relationship management skills\nProven ability to mentor staff and lead multi-discipline design teams\n Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position\nRelocation is not available for this position\nAt AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
