AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Lead to join our Environmental Remediation practice in the Lisle office. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership for complex site investigation, remediation, and regulatory compliance projects throughout Illinois and the Midwest. This position requires extensive experience with Illinois environmental regulations, particularly the Illinois EPA Site Remediation Program (SRP) and the Tiered Approach to Corrective Action Objectives (TACO) program (35 Ill. Adm. Code 742).

The Senior Technical Lead will serve as a subject matter expert, oversee preparation and review of regulatory deliverables, support business development efforts, mentor junior staff, and provide strategic guidance to project teams and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical lead for environmental investigation and remediation projects involving soil, groundwater, sediment, and vapor impacts.
  • Direct preparation and technical review of reports and submittals prepared under the Illinois EPA Site Remediation Program, including:
    • Comprehensive Site Investigations (CSIs)
    • Remedial Objectives Reports (RORs)
    • Remedial Action Plans (RAPs)
    • Remedial Action Completion Reports (RACRs)
    • No Further Remediation (NFR) documentation
  • Interpret and apply Illinois EPA TACO regulations and remediation objectives.
  • Develop remediation strategies and evaluate remedial technologies for impacted sites.
  • Provide quality assurance and quality control review of technical reports, work plans, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Interface directly with regulatory agencies, including Illinois EPA project managers and reviewers.
  • Support project managers in developing scopes of work, budgets, schedules, and technical approaches.
  • Lead technical discussions with clients and stakeholders.
  • Mentor and train environmental scientists and engineers.
  • Support proposal development and business development activities, including technical approach development and client presentations.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams consisting of engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, scientists, and subcontractors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field AND 10 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental consulting, remediation, and regulatory compliance, including 2 years of leadership experiences and/or a demonstrated equiveillancy of experience and education
  • Successful candidate will have to pass a background check and motor vehicle records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience preparing, reviewing, and managing environmental reports submitted to the Illinois EPA under the TACO program.
  • Thorough understanding of Illinois EPA Site Remediation Program requirements and environmental regulations
  • Experience managing complex remediation and environmental compliance projects.
  • Strong technical writing and report review skills.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG), or other relevant professional registration.
  • 15+ years of environmental consulting experience.
  • Established relationships with Illinois EPA personnel and familiarity with agency review processes.
  • Experience supporting Brownfield redevelopment projects.
  • Experience with groundwater modeling, risk assessment, and remedial design.
  • Proven success in technical leadership, staff development, and client management.
  • Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, petroleum, and commercial redevelopment projects.
