AECOM is an American infrastructure consulting firm that became independent in 1990 through a management buyout from the energy group Ashland, and is now one of the largest design and engineering organisations in the world. It plans, designs and manages delivery of transport systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, buildings, environmental remediation and energy projects for public agencies and private developers across roughly one hundred and fifty countries. Headquartered in Dallas after relocating from Los Angeles, the company sold its self-perform construction and government services arms to concentrate on higher-margin professional services rather than carrying construction risk.

AECOM is seeking an accomplished Senior Transportation Project Manager to join our Transportation team in Murray, Utah. This is an opportunity to lead complex, high-profile transportation infrastructure projects while helping shape the future of mobility throughout Utah and the Intermountain West.

Utah is experiencing significant investment in its transportation network, with major initiatives focused on highway capacity, interchange improvements, corridor reconstruction, bridge infrastructure, transit connectivity, and regional mobility. From the Wasatch Front to rapidly growing communities throughout the state, these investments create opportunities to deliver infrastructure that improves safety, relieves congestion, and supports long-term economic growth.

AECOM's Utah Transportation team works across a broad range of engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions for public-sector transportation clients. In this role, you will provide strategic and technical leadership for complex transportation projects, guide multidisciplinary teams, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to the pursuit and delivery of future work. You will have the opportunity to influence project direction, support innovative delivery approaches, and build lasting partnerships with the agencies and communities that depend on reliable transportation infrastructure.

This position is ideal for a senior transportation professional who combines strong project management capabilities with technical credibility, client development experience, and a passion for delivering meaningful infrastructure improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Manager and technical leader for large, complex transportation infrastructure projects, overseeing delivery from planning and preliminary engineering through final design and construction support.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across roadway, highway, interchange, bridge, traffic, transit, drainage, environmental, and related transportation disciplines.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, staffing, quality, risk, and financial performance to achieve project objectives and client expectations.
  • Establish project delivery strategies, coordinate technical resources, and ensure the timely preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and other project deliverables.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, contractors, agency representatives, and other stakeholders, building trusted relationships and maintaining clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support transportation infrastructure programs addressing highway capacity, corridor improvements, interchange reconstruction, bridge infrastructure, traffic operations, and multimodal connectivity.
  • Lead technical coordination and design reviews to ensure compliance with applicable UDOT, local agency, federal, and industry standards.
  • Monitor project performance, identify emerging risks and opportunities, resolve delivery challenges, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Support alternative delivery methods, including design-build and progressive design-build, where applicable, and coordinate with construction partners to advance practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Lead proposal development, scope and fee preparation, staffing strategies, client presentations, and pursuit activities for upcoming transportation opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships, develop new business, and strengthen AECOM's position in Utah's transportation market.
  • Mentor and develop project managers, engineers, and technical staff, promoting collaboration, accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion AECOM's commitment to safety, quality, sustainability, resilience, and innovative infrastructure delivery.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education including 2 years of leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Utah, or the ability to obtain Utah licensure
  • Extensive experience managing transportation engineering projects, including highways, roadways, interchanges, bridges, traffic infrastructure, or multimodal transportation improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex transportation projects for state departments of transportation, counties, municipalities, or other public-sector agencies.
  • Experience working with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), including familiarity with UDOT design standards, project development procedures, quality requirements, and project delivery processes.
  • Proven ability to manage project scope, schedule, budget, staffing, risk, quality, and financial performance across multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating technical work across roadway, bridge, traffic, drainage, environmental, transit, and construction disciplines.
  • Demonstrated success supporting design-build, progressive design-build, or other alternative delivery projects, including coordination among owners, designers, contractors, and other delivery partners.
  • Experience developing project pursuits, technical proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, staffing plans, and client presentations for transportation infrastructure opportunities.
  • Established client relationships within Utah's transportation market, including UDOT, local transportation agencies, counties, and municipalities.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify business opportunities, strengthen client relationships, support strategic pursuits, and contribute to the growth of a transportation engineering practice.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience mentoring technical staff, managing stakeholder expectations, and presenting complex engineering concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Familiarity with transportation design and project management platforms, including Bentley OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and relevant scheduling, estimating, and project controls tools.
  • Ability to balance strategic project leadership with hands-on problem-solving, sound engineering judgment, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work on schedule and within budget.
