AECOM is an American infrastructure consulting firm that became independent in 1990 through a management buyout from the energy group Ashland, and is now one of the largest design and engineering organisations in the world. It plans, designs and manages delivery of transport systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, buildings, environmental remediation and energy projects for public agencies and private developers across roughly one hundred and fifty countries. Headquartered in Dallas after relocating from Los Angeles, the company sold its self-perform construction and government services arms to concentrate on higher-margin professional services rather than carrying construction risk.

You’ll work across market-leading building projects in Australia, provide technical direction to project teams, build strong client relationships and play an active role in proposals and work winning.

The role also provides an opportunity to help grow our structural engineering capability in Sydney and contribute to the wider national team.

How you’ll make a difference:

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, contributing to proposals, pursuits and work winning and helping grow AECOM’s structural engineering presence in Sydney and across ANZ.
  • Share your technical knowledge and experience across the wider Building Engineering group, supporting consistent engineering standards and best practice.

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.

The qualities that help you thrive:

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with ideally 20+ years of relevant structural engineering experience, preferably within a consultancy environment.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia, or equivalent professional registration.
  • Extensive experience delivering complex structural engineering projects, with strong knowledge of Australian codes, standards and design practices.
  • Proven experience providing technical leadership, undertaking design and technical reviews, and leading multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Experience acting as a Project Director or in a similar senior project leadership role, with strong project and commercial management skills.
  • Strong client-facing and communication skills, with a track record of building relationships, contributing to proposals and securing new work.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, with a focus on mentoring and developing structural engineers and future leaders.
  • Strong working knowledge of industry-standard structural engineering software, such as SpaceGass, ETABS, RAPT and Strand7.

Why you’ll love working with us:

  • Flexible work arrangements, including alternative start/finish times, full-time, part-time, job-sharing and hybrid work options
  • Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year
  • Flex public holidays - swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better
  • Continuous learning and growth - lunch and learns, professional development courses, financial study assistance, 5 days paid study leave, global career opportunities
