This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities.\nAECOM is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Traction Power Intern to join our team in the Philadelphia, PA office. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design, analysis of DC or AC traction power systems for railways, light rail transit (LRT), or other electrified transportation networks. The intern will work closely with experienced engineers and contribute to real-world projects, gaining practical knowledge in a dynamic and challenging environment.\nThis position is available for this summer, as well as co-op opportunities through the school year. \nInternships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. Interns work with cutting-edge technology, learn industry best practices, and collaborate with experienced professionals in a globally recognized firm. The program fosters both technical and professional skill development while providing networking opportunities that can enhance future career prospects. Additionally, AECOM’s dedication to innovation and sustainability enables interns to contribute to meaningful projects that help shape communities and the built environment.\nThe responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:\nAssist in the design and analysis of traction power distribution systems, including substations, overhead catenary systems (OCS), and third rail systems.\nSupport the development of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts.\nPerform calculations related to voltage drop, current flow, and power system performance.\nAssist in the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.\nConduct field inspections and site visits to gather data and observe construction activities.\nAssist in the testing and commissioning of traction power equipment.\nSupport the maintenance and troubleshooting of existing traction power systems.\nAssist in the preparation of as-built drawings and documentation.\nPerform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.\nLearning Objectives:\nGain practical experience in the design and analysis of traction power systems.\nDevelop skills in using industry-standard software and tools.\nLearn about the operation and maintenance of railway or transit systems.\nEnhance communication and teamwork skills.\nBuild a professional network in the transportation industry.\nMinimum Requirements:\nCandidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related, and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for the position. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nBasic understanding of electrical power systems and circuit analysis.\nFamiliarity with AC and DC power concepts.\nStrong interest in railway or transit systems.\nProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).\nAbility to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills. \nAbility to work independently and as part of a team.\nValid driver's license (may be required for site visits). \nFamiliarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software is a plus.\n Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.\nRelocation assistance is not available.\nAt AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
