Join us.\n About the Role\nAECOM is looking for enthusiastic and motivated apprentices to join our Traffic Engineering team. You’ll support a diverse range of projects focused on creating safer, more efficient and sustainable transport networks, helping to develop solutions for pedestrians, cyclists, public transport and vehicles.\nYou’ll work alongside experienced engineers and other technical professionals in multidisciplinary teams, gaining practical experience across the project lifecycle. Through on-the-job learning, formal training and mentoring, you’ll develop your technical skills and knowledge while working towards a recognised qualification and building a career in Traffic Engineering.\nWhat You’ll Do\nAs a Traffic Engineering Apprentice, you’ll work closely with experienced engineers who will provide guidance and support as you develop your skills. Your responsibilities will grow as your knowledge and confidence develop, giving you increasing exposure to live projects and technical work.\nYou’ll gain experience using industry-standard design and modelling software, which may include AutoCAD, Civil 3D, LinSig, TRANSYT, VISSIM and BIM tools, depending on project requirements.\nYour work may include:\nAssisting with the preparation of design drawings, plans and supporting documentation using CAD and other design software.\nSupporting the development and delivery of traffic engineering, highways and active travel schemes from concept through to detailed design.\nHelping to collect, analyse and interpret traffic and transport data.\nAssisting with highway, street and traffic engineering design, including signage and road markings.\nSupporting traffic management and traffic signal design activities.\nParticipating in site visits, surveys and inspections to gather information and understand existing conditions.\nAssisting with technical reports, calculations and presentation materials.\nWorking collaboratively with engineers, designers and other technical professionals across multidisciplinary project teams.\nMaintaining project records and providing support with general project administration.\nDeveloping your understanding of relevant engineering standards, guidance and industry best practice.\nAs you progress through your apprenticeship, you’ll be encouraged to take on greater responsibility and contribute more independently to project tasks and technical deliverables.\nProject Experience\nYou may have opportunities to gain experience across a variety of Traffic Engineering projects, including:\nRoad and street design\nJunction and intersection design\nCycle lane and active travel design\nBus priority and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) schemes\nStreetscape and urban improvement projects\nTraffic management planning and design\nTraffic signal design\nTraffic signage and road markings\nTraffic modelling and microsimulation\nTraffic impact and transport assessments\nNetwork analysis and optimisation\nFeasibility studies and scheme development\nRoad safety assessments and audits\nYou may also have opportunities to work alongside our Highways teams on major infrastructure projects, providing exposure to a broad range of transportation and engineering disciplines.\n This role is ideal for school leavers with GCSEs, A-Levels or equivalent qualifications who can demonstrate:\nA minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including Mathematics and English.\nThree A-Levels (or equivalent, such as a BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering), including Mathematics and a physical science at grade C or above, where required for the Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship.\nAn interest in traffic, transport or civil engineering and a desire to build a career in the industry.\nAn aptitude for technical software, engineering design and drawing, with an interest in tools such as AutoCAD or 3D modelling software.\nBasic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.\nAn interest in transport, sustainability and the development of safer, more accessible streets and communities.\nStrong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.\nGood written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate initiative when working independently.\nEnthusiasm, adaptability and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.\nCommitment to continuous learning and professional development.\nA creative and practical approach to problem-solving.\n Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible since CVs will be reviewed, and candidates selected for an advanced offer start. \nPlease include a covering letter with your application and provide all predicted and/or obtained academic grades. \nYou must have permanent right to work in the UK as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position. \nAt AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
