Join us.\n AECOM is seeking a motivated Transportation Design Engineer - CE III to join our growing Transportation team in Middleton, Wisconsin. This is an opportunity to contribute to transportation infrastructure projects that improve mobility, enhance safety, and strengthen communities throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest. You will work alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver roadway, highway, interchange, and multimodal transportation improvements from preliminary engineering through final design and construction.\nIn this role, you will take ownership of key design elements, develop innovative and practical engineering solutions, and apply your technical expertise to projects that make a meaningful difference for the communities we serve. You will use modern design technology, including 3D roadway modeling, to develop coordinated, constructible designs that meet client needs, agency requirements, and project objectives. You will also have opportunities to collaborate directly with project managers and technical leaders, mentor developing engineers, and expand your capabilities while contributing to AECOM's transportation practice across Wisconsin.\nAECOM offers the opportunity to work on complex infrastructure challenges as part of a global team with extensive technical resources, multidisciplinary expertise, and opportunities for continued professional growth.\nKey Responsibilities\nPerform transportation engineering design for highways, interchanges, urban roadways, arterial corridors, and multimodal transportation projects.\nDevelop, maintain, and refine 3D roadway models using AutoCAD Civil 3D to support coordinated and constructible design solutions.\nComplete roadway geometric design, engineering calculations, grading, and drainage coordination for moderately complex transportation assignments.\nPrepare roadway plans, technical specifications, engineering reports, technical memoranda, quantity calculations, and construction documentation.\nReview engineering data, identify design constraints, evaluate alternatives, and develop practical solutions that balance safety, performance, constructability, and cost.\nCoordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including traffic, drainage, structures, environmental, survey, and construction professionals, to deliver integrated project designs.\nApply applicable design criteria, agency standards, quality management procedures, and engineering best practices throughout project development.\nCoordinate with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), county highway departments, municipalities, and other public agencies to support project delivery.\nManage assigned design tasks, monitor progress against project budgets and schedules, and deliver accurate, high-quality work with minimal supervision.\nProvide technical guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers and technical staff, contributing to a collaborative environment focused on knowledge sharing and professional development.\n Minimum Requirements\nBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline and 4+ years of relevant transportation engineering experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.\nPreferred Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.\n8+ years of experience in transportation engineering and roadway design, including highways, interchanges, arterial roadways, and municipal transportation infrastructure.\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license in Wisconsin, or the ability to obtain Wisconsin licensure within six months of hire.\nExperience delivering transportation projects for WisDOT, county highway departments, municipalities, or other public-sector transportation agencies, with knowledge of applicable design criteria and project development processes.\nProficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including 3D roadway modeling, corridor modeling, surface development, grading, and preparation of transportation design plans.\nExperience preparing roadway plan sets, engineering calculations, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and construction documents for transportation improvement projects.\nDemonstrated ability to coordinate multidisciplinary design activities, resolve technical challenges, communicate effectively with clients and project teams, and deliver work within established budgets and schedules.\nExperience providing technical guidance or mentoring junior engineers, supporting quality reviews, and contributing to transportation projects from preliminary engineering through final design and construction support.\n This role does not provide Visa Sponsorship\nAt AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
