If you’re inspired to make a difference through future-building projects, join our best-in-class team.\nWhat is the Opportunity?\nReporting to the Vice President, ATW, the General Manager is responsible for the overall safety, leadership, operational performance, financial results, and strategic direction of the company's roadway construction operations in Calgary and surrounding areas.\nWhat You'll Do Here:\nSafety & Risk Management\nChampion a strong safety culture and hold leaders accountable for performance.\nPromote a culture where employees are empowered and expected to stop unsafe work.\nEnsure compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety requirements and company policies.\nReview significant incidents, near misses, and corrective action plans.\nIntegrate safety into planning, estimating, scheduling, and project execution.\nOperational Leadership\nProvide overall leadership and direction for roadway construction operations.\nEstablish annual and long-term operational objectives aligned with company strategy.\nOversee successful execution of multiple construction projects simultaneously.\nEnsure appropriate resources, equipment, labour, materials, and subcontractors are available.\nMonitor project performance and intervene when schedule, cost, quality, or resource challenges arise.\nEstablish standardized operational processes, best practices, and accountability.\nFinancial & Business Performance\nMaintain overall accountability for profitability and financial performance of the business unit.\nReview project financials, budgets, forecasts, cost-to-complete, productivity, and margins.\nMonitor revenue, gross margin, overhead, utilization, and operating results.\nDevelop and manage annual operating budgets and identify corrective actions.\nDrive continuous improvement in productivity, cost control, and project profitability.\nProject Management & Delivery\nProvide oversight of major and high-risk projects from bid through completion.\nEnsure Senior/Project Managers and Operational Managers maintain strong project controls.\nReview schedules, budgets, forecasts, manpower requirements, and production targets.\nSupport resolution of significant contractual, client, subcontractor, and operational issues.\nEnsure project closeout, financial reconciliation, and recovery of outstanding claims/change orders.\nEstimating & Business Development\nProvide strategic direction to estimating and business development.\nIdentify and pursue opportunities aligned with company capabilities and objectives.\nReview major bids and provide input on pricing, risk, production assumptions, equipment, labour, and subcontracting.\nDevelop relationships with municipalities, developers, general contractors, consultants, and suppliers.\nMonitor market conditions, competitors, infrastructure opportunities, and profitable backlog.\nPeople & Leadership\nLead, mentor, and develop the team.\nRecruit and retain high-performing construction professionals.\nEstablish performance expectations, succession plans, and leadership development.\nSupport employee engagement, retention, and professional development.\nWork with HR on workforce planning, compensation, employee relations, and organizational development.\nClient & Stakeholder Relations\nDevelop and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders.\nAct as senior company representative for major projects and strategic accounts.\nResolve escalated client concerns and contractual issues.\nParticipate in major client meetings, negotiations, and project reviews.\nQuality & Continuous Improvement\nEstablish expectations for quality and project execution.\nEnsure construction activities meet contractual specifications and company standards.\nIdentify opportunities to improve productivity, processes, and project delivery.\nImplement KPIs, operational reporting, and lessons learned.\nWhat You Bring to the Team:\n10+ years of progressive leadership experience within construction and/or post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline preferred.\nP.Eng., Gold Seal, PMP, CET, or equivalent designation is an asset.\nSignificant roadway, civil, earthworks, underground utilities, grading, paving, aggregates/base construction, or heavy civil experience.\nDemonstrated experience managing multiple projects and operational teams.\nProven project financial management and profitability experience.\nStrong understanding of construction contracts, estimating, scheduling, project controls, and risk management.\nStrong knowledge of Alberta construction practices and regulatory requirements.\nAecon fosters diversity, inclusion and belonging within and across our organization.
