What is the Opportunity?

Aecon’s Civil East sector is a cornerstone of our construction and infrastructure operations, delivering innovative solutions to some of the most complex and impactful projects globally. Renowned for its expertise in heavy civil construction, our Civil East sector specializes in building essential infrastructure that powers economies and enhances communities.

Our portfolio features cutting-edge work on bridges, highways, tunnels, and airports to name a few! In the Caribbean region, we are leveraging our expertise and collaborative approach to deliver world-class infrastructure projects tailored to meet the unique needs of the island communities.

We are looking for Project Engineer, Intern. At Aecon International, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals to streamline project costs and mitigate risks, all while maintaining high standards of quality and adhering to building regulations. This opportunity is available for a work term of up to 12 months.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Assists in the efficient scheduling of various work crews as required.
  • Performs site previews and inspections as required in preparation for locate requests.
  • Assists in inventory management, control and related systems development.
  • Coordinates and procures specialty materials and tooling.
  • Assists in small specialty tool inventory management, control, maintenance, and certification.
  • Reviews and summarizes weekly equipment utilization reports and corrects misallocations.
  • Develop an understanding of budgets, cost reports, and revenue forecasts at the project level.
  • Assist more senior engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to prescribed testing, analysis, design, or computation methods.
  • Assist in designs, procurement, scheduling, production, transporting, installation, testing, and commissioning of complex equipment.
  • Assist in controlling expenditures on projects. Help prepare and update engineering control documents.
  • Assist with bids and proposals for new work.
  • Participate in basic layout and field engineering activities.
  • Maintain field logs.
  • Interpret design drawings for sub-trades installing material and equipment.
  • Present design discrepancies to design consultants for resolution, prepare documentation, field design change requests, etc., as required.
  • Help prepare and disseminate all required documentation records such as punch lists describing work items to be done, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, etc.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree programme in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Electrical, Mechanical).
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
  • Knowledge of contract language, terms and conditions, bonding, etc.
  • Knowledge of job cost fundamentals and basic accounting/reporting principles is an asset.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure.
  • Capability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
