The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.\nAs part of this project, we are currently looking for a Senior Safety Engineer to join our team.\nWhat You Will Do:\nLead safety engineering and systems assurance activities throughout design, integration, testing, and commissioning phases.\nDevelop, maintain, and manage hazard logs, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, mitigated, and tracked to closure.\nConduct and facilitate safety analyses, hazard identification workshops, and risk assessments with project stakeholders.\nSupport the development and maintenance of safety cases demonstrating compliance with project and regulatory requirements.\nReview engineering designs, technical submissions, and change requests to verify safety requirements are effectively incorporated.\nCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams including signaling, communications, traction power, track, stations, and rolling stock disciplines.\nSupport systems integration, verification, validation, testing, and commissioning activities from a safety assurance perspective.\nEnsure compliance with applicable safety standards, client requirements, contractual obligations, and industry best practices.\nCoordinate with project partners, consultants, contractors, operators, and regulatory authorities on safety-related matters.\nSupport safety audits, independent assessments, regulatory reviews, and project safety approvals.\nProvide technical guidance on safety risks, mitigations, and safety assurance strategies.\nPromote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement across the project team.\nExperience You Will Bring:\nBachelor's degree in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Transportation, or a related discipline).\nProfessional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility to obtain registration, is considered an asset.\n8+ years of experience in safety engineering, systems assurance, systems engineering, or a related discipline.\nExperience supporting complex rail, subway, LRT, transit, transportation, or major infrastructure projects.\nDemonstrated experience developing and managing hazard logs and safety risk management processes.\nStrong knowledge of system safety principles, hazard analysis methodologies, and risk assessment techniques.\nExperience working through design, integration, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness phases of projects.\nFamiliarity with safety and railway industry standards such as EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, IEC 61508, or equivalent frameworks.\nExperience supporting safety cases, verification and validation activities, and regulatory compliance programs.\nProven ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and technical report writing skills.\nExcellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management abilities.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.\nProficient use of DOORS NG.\nDemonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior engineers and influence safety-focused decision-making.\nWhy Join Us?\nCompensation: $125,000 - $144,000 annually.
