This role will be geared toward someone with a strong interest in applied AI to help build intelligent, scalable systems. This role focuses on integrating AI capabilities into production software-bridging traditional engineering with modern machine learning and large language model (LLM) workflows.\nYou’ll work on backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that power AI-driven features, while collaborating closely with product and design to bring those capabilities to life.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDesign, build, and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs\nIntegrate AI/ML capabilities into applications (LLMs, embeddings, classification, etc.)\nDevelop and optimize data pipelines for AI workflows\nImplement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and context-aware systems\nEvaluate and integrate third-party AI tools and services\nImprove system performance, reliability, and cost efficiency\nWrite clean, maintainable, and well-tested code\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams to ship AI-powered features\nContribute to architecture decisions and technical direction\n⠀\nRequired Skills\nStrong programming experience in one or more languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, PHP, Go)\nExperience building and maintaining backend systems and APIs\nFamiliarity with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure\nExperience working with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL)\nUnderstanding of software design principles and system architecture\nFamiliarity with integrating AI APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic\nBasic understanding of:Prompt engineering\nEmbeddings and vector search\nModel limitations and evaluation\n\n⠀\nBonus Skills\nExperience building AI-powered applications in production\nFamiliarity with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate)\nExperience with frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex\nKnowledge of machine learning fundamentals (training, fine-tuning, evaluation)\nExperience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)\nExposure to event-driven or streaming architectures\nFrontend experience (React, Next.js) is a plus but not required\n⠀\nHow You Work\nStrong problem-solver with attention to detail\nCurious about emerging AI technologies and eager to experiment\nComfortable working in evolving, fast-paced environments\nFocused on building reliable, production-ready systems\nCommunicates clearly with both technical and non-technical teammates\n⠀\nExample Projects\nBuilding APIs that power AI-driven features (chat, summarization, recommendations)\nImplementing a RAG pipeline for internal or customer-facing search\nCreating services that orchestrate LLM workflows or agents\nOptimizing latency and cost of AI inference in production\nDeveloping tools to evaluate and monitor model performance\nAt AXS, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but can't \"check every box\" in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway.
