Interns work alongside AV team members on meaningful projects involving cutting-edge technology while developing professional relationships, strategic problem-solving skills, and practical experience in a full-time work environment.\nThis is a 12-week, onsite program intended for highly motivated and passionate students who are currently enrolled in college or are recent graduates. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, with a preference for students at the junior level or above.\nOur program has been recognized by Yello and WayUp as one of the Top 100 Internship Programs in the United States for multiple years.\nDepending on the team and location, students who are willing to relocate for their internship may be eligible for a relocation and housing reimbursement stipend.\nThis position is required to work onsite in the Germantown, MD office.\nSummary\nAs a RF Software Engineering Intern, you’ll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team working on real-world projects across AV technology portfolio. You’ll assist in the design, development, and testing of software solutions for a variety of applications - from ground control systems and user interfaces to data pipelines and simulation tools.\nThis role is ideal for someone who’s eager to apply their software development skills in a dynamic, hands-on environment, while learning from experienced engineers and contributing to projects with real impact.\nPosition Responsibilities\nWork with a team of engineers, scientists, and project managers\nPerform technology research, including trade studies and comparative analysis.\nAssist in design and testing of prototype and production systems using open-source, custom, and proprietary software packages.\nUtilize configuration management tools to document and iterate upon software under development.\nConduct field testing and evaluation of components, systems, and products.\nBasic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)\nCurrently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. \nStrong foundational knowledge in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java. \nFamiliarity with development tools such as Visual Studio, Git, Eclipse, or similar IDEs. \nExperience with data structures, algorithms, and software design principles. \nDemonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills. \nAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. \nEffective written and verbal communication skills. \nPreferred Qualifications & Competencies\nWe are looking to hire multiple interns to support a variety of projects, so experience in any of the following areas is desired.\nExperience with frontend (e.g., React, JavaFX) and backend development and/or integration.\nFamiliarity with REST APIs and web frameworks.\nSkills with DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and/or Docker.\nCompetency in unit testing and debugging.\nFamiliarity with GitHub and/or GitLab.\nProficiency with object-oriented programming (e.g. Java, JavaScript, C++, Python) with the ability to write clean, well-documented code.\nExperience in software test design and integration.\nCompetency in data analysis and visualization tools such as Excel or MATLAB. \nParticipation in extracurricular student engineering competitions\nPhysical Demands\nAbility to work in an office and R&D lab environment (Constant) \nRequired to sit, type, and use office equipment for extended periods (Frequent) \nClearance Level\nNo ClearanceThe salary range for this role is:\nAeroVironment considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the location, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.\nITAR Requirement:\nThis position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”).
