This hands-on role requires precision workmanship, careful documentation, and adherence to cleanroom, contamination control, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) practices. The technologist works closely with engineers, Quality, and other technicians to deliver hardware that meets technical, quality, and schedule requirements.\nThis requisition supports hiring at Level II and Level III. Placement will be based on education, relevant experience, and demonstrated technical proficiency. The complexity of assigned work and degree of independence will be commensurate with the selected level.\nPosition Responsibilities\nAssemble and integrate components, subassemblies, and precision hardware, including optical and opto-mechanical systems, printed circuit board assemblies, electronics, and cabling.\nRead and interpret engineering drawings, drawing callouts, assembly instructions, test procedures, and other controlled documentation.\nExecute approved assembly and test procedures; accurately record results, numerical and graphical data, and discrepancies.\nPerform incoming inspection and collect, verify, and organize component data and supporting documentation, including certificates of conformance and analysis (COC/COA).\nHandle and assemble sensitive hardware in cleanrooms while following contamination control, ESD, and hardware protection requirements.\nPrepare, mix, and apply epoxies and adhesives in accordance with approved procedures.\nSupport hardware testing, including thermal vacuum (TVAC) and vibration testing, and document test results.\nCoordinate with engineers and machine shop personnel to communicate drawing requirements and support fabrication requests.\nIdentify and communicate assembly issues, documentation discrepancies, and opportunities to improve manufacturing processes.\nMaintain clean, organized work areas, tools, and laboratory equipment; support supply ordering and material preparation.\nCollaborate with engineers and other technicians; perform other duties as assigned.\nBasic Qualifications\nEducation and technician experience requirements depend on the level of appointment:\nLevel II: Associate degree and at least one (1) year of technician experience, or high school diploma and at least three (3) years of technician experience.\nLevel III: Associate degree and at least five (5) years of technician experience, or high school diploma and at least seven (7) years of technician experience.\nCandidates at either level must demonstrate the following:\nExperience assembling and testing space and/or flight hardware, including precision mechanical, electronic, or opto-mechanical assemblies.\nKnowledge and practical application of ESD fundamentals and cleanroom work practices.\nAbility to accurately interpret engineering drawings, assembly and test procedures, and related documentation, including requirements for machine shop fabrication.\nExperience mixing and applying epoxies and adhesives, and working with test equipment used for TVAC and vibration testing.\nStrong attention to detail, accurate data recording, and effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.\nAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and perform assigned technical work with a level of supervision appropriate to experience and task complexity.\nU.S. citizenship is required.\nEligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with optical or opto-mechanical systems and the handling of delicate optical components.\nJ-STD-001 certification with Space Addendum, IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification, and/or IPC-A-610 certification.\nPhysical Demands and Work Environment\nWork is performed in office, laboratory, cleanroom, and manufacturing environments.\nDuties may require standing for extended periods, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, climbing stairs, and using hands to handle components, tools, and equipment.\nOccasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.\nVision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.\nSome travel and extended work weeks may be required during assembly, integration, and test activities.\nCompensation\nThe combined salary range for this requisition is $21-$38. Level II range: $21-$36. Level III range: $25-$38.
