The Substations P&C Engineer will work on the design and implementation of new and existing utility substations ranging from 13.2kV to 345kV. All experience levels will be considered for this position.\nThe successful candidate will be tasked with the development and execution of utility substation P&C designs, calculations, and studies. He/she will work either alone or as part of a team to design, review, direct, and support substation protection and control projects that vary in complexity and scope.\nThe AES Indiana substation team is a dynamic group that works together to solve problems quickly and provide reliable solutions for our customers and the community.\nKey Areas of Responsibilities\nComplete substation protection and control designs including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementary, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring.\nDetailed analysis of existing protection schemes to identify weaknesses and propose improvements.\nDevelop cable schedules and bill of materials.\nApplication and interconnection of SCADA and communication systems within the substation.\nRelay settings calculations and system coordination studies.\nCreate and analyze transmission and distribution relay settings and logic diagrams.\nReview of system fault events and recommendation of remedial actions when required.\nIteratively work to achieve best design outcome considering cost, project scope, constructability, and consistency with existing practices.\nCoordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members.\nAct as a representative of AES Indiana to the public and our customers.\nInteract and consult with other substation team members to incorporate existing standards and best practices into substation designs.\nDevelop engineering equipment and services specifications.\nManage project documents.\nAssist with equipment procurement.\nEnsure project schedules are met.\nSupport construction activities with technical expertise and onsite technical direction when required.\nRequired Talents, Skills, Expertise, Education\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems from an ABET accredited program.\nWorking understanding of power system symmetrical components\nAbility to work as a team member, as well as independently\nA high level of interpersonal communication skills, including a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills\nValid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.\nAutoCAD software skills are preferred.\nProfessional Engineer registration or plan to become registered is preferred.\nPrior utility or consulting experience is a plus.\nCompetences\nAble to apply engineering principles and theory.\nAssess and recommend solutions for routine projects.\nFamiliarity with electric transmission and distribution grid and systems.\nEffective written and oral communication skills.\nGood presentation skills and ability to lead meetings.\nPrioritize, plan, and perform assigned work in an organized manner.\nDemonstrate good judgment.\nShows initiative and proactiveness.\nDemonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nMentor less experienced engineers.\nDemonstrated competency in development and execution of strategy as well as in management of day-to-day operations.\nDemonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others as well as operate with a minimum of supervision.\nAbe to manage multiple projects simultaneously.\nAES is an Equal Opportunity Employer who is committed to building strength and delivering long-term sustainability through diversity and inclusion.
