Apply now and energize your career with a true leader in global energy. \nSubstation Design Engineer\nJob Summary\nAES Indiana is seeking to fill a substation engineering position (Physical/Electrical or Civil/Structural) to work in our Indianapolis, Indiana offices. The Substation Design Engineer will work on the design and implementation of substation projects for new and existing utility substations ranging from 13.2kV to 345kV. All experience levels will be considered for these positions and compensation will be commensurate with experience.\nThe successful candidate will be tasked with the development and execution of utility substation designs, calculations, and studies. They will work either alone or as part of a team to design, review, direct, and support substation projects that vary in complexity and scope.\nThe AES Indiana substation team is a dynamic group that works together to solve problems quickly and provide reliable solutions for our customers and the community.\nKey Areas of Responsibilities\nResponsible for the day-to-day execution of projects within the substation engineering group.\nConduct engineering studies and perform design calculations for the installation of new and replacement substation equipment. \nPerform physical substation engineering design including general arrangement, electrical plan and section view drawings, cable and conduit plans, grounding plans, raceway plans, shielding plans, and bus work calculations.\nCreate or review foundation and structural designs.\nDevelop bill of materials.\nEvaluate geotechnical analysis information and apply it to substation designs.\nDesign or evaluate site civil plans specific to site grading, access, drainage, soil erosion and sediment control.\nCreate material lists and takeoffs from engineering designs.\nUnderstand, follow, and apply industry standards to engineering designs.\nIteratively work to achieve best design outcome considering cost, project scope, constructability, and consistency with existing practices.\nCoordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members.\nAct as a representative of AES Indiana to the public and our customers.\nDevelop specifications for equipment and services.\nDevelop construction schedules and budgets.\nManage project documents and records.\nAssist with equipment procurement.\nSupport construction activities with technical expertise and onsite technical direction when required.\nRequired Talents, Skills, Expertise, Education\nBachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering \nAny experience level will be considered.\nAbility to work as a team member, as well as independently.\nA high level of interpersonal communication skills, including a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills.\nValid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.\nAutoCAD software skills are preferred.\nProfessional Engineer registration or plan to become registered is preferred. \nPrevious electric utility experience preferred. \nCompetencies\nAble to apply engineering principles and theory.\nAssess and recommend solutions for routine projects.\nFamiliarity with electric transmission and distribution grid and systems.\nEffective written and oral communication skills.\nGood presentation skills and ability to lead meetings.\nPrioritize, plan, and perform assigned work in an organized manner.\nDemonstrate good judgment.\nShows initiative and proactiveness.\nDemonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nMentor less experienced engineers.\nDemonstrated competency in development and execution of strategy as well as in management of day-to-day operations.\nDemonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others as well as operate with a minimum of supervision.\nAES is an Equal Opportunity Employer who is committed to building strength and delivering long-term sustainability through diversity and inclusion.
