Through the AESO's Connection Process, the Customer Access Studies (CAS) team performs and reviews project interconnection engineering studies that support the reliable integration of new generation, load, and transmission-connected projects into Alberta's power system.\nReporting to the Manager, Customer Access Studies, the Senior Engineer is responsible for running interconnection engineering studies and developing engineering solutions to project challenges that support customer connection projects. You will provide technical decision-making, engineering assessments, documentation, and technical regulatory support to facilitate System Access Service Requests to the AIES. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will contribute to technical deliverables, support project execution through the AESO Connection Process, and provide guidance to Engineers and Engineers-in-Training.\nWhat You'll Do\nPrepare Engineering Study Scope documents for projects within the assigned Cluster (regional area) in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.\nConduct power flow, stability, and short circuit studies, as well as advanced power system analysis studies for project interconnection using PSS/E software.\nDetermine options or alternative solutions for connecting Market Participants to the Alberta transmission network and justify the preferred alternative based on technical, economic, and impact factors.\nPrepare and review Single Line diagrams, Engineering Connection Assessments, Connection Proposals, and supporting documentation for connection projects.\nReview and accept Distribution Deficiency Reports and analyze system constraints identified through engineering studies.\nCollaborate with AESO Operations, Planning, Markets, Project Engineering, Grid Analytics, and Standards & Modeling teams to develop mitigation plans, forecasts, and models that support customer access studies and connection projects.\nMaintain technical project documentation and effective communication with Market Participants to resolve technical issues.\nProvide technical leadership, engineering expertise, and support for customer connection projects through the AESO Connection Process.\nWhat You’ll Bring to Us\nB.Sc. in Electrical Engineering; a post-graduate degree in Electrical Power Systems is considered an asset.\nRegistered with or eligible for registration with APEGA (P.Eng.).\nApproximately 8-10 years of engineering experience in the electric utility industry, including at least five years of exposure to power systems and distribution planning or operations.\nProficiency in PSS/E software and Python.\nExperience conducting power flow, stability, and short circuit studies, as well as advanced power system analysis.\nStrong understanding of transmission and distribution system planning, customer interconnections, and utility operations.\nDistribution system planning and detailed design expertise is considered an asset.\nWhy Join AESO\nHelp shape the future of Alberta's electricity system.\nLead complex, high-impact customer interconnection projects.\nWork with industry-leading engineers and technical experts.\nInfluence major transmission infrastructure and system planning decisions.\nGrow your career in a collaborative environment that values innovation, technical excellence, and continuous learning.\nWhat We Offer\nThis full-time opportunity offers a competitive salary, paid vacation and flex time, health and dental benefits, mental health support, a defined contribution pension plan, and learning and development opportunities as part of your overall compensation package.
