We develop innovative solutions that integrate information from vision-based algorithms, inertial measurement units (IMUs), LiDAR, radar, and other sensors to provide accurate real-time state estimation, perception, planning, and control for autonomous platforms operating in complex, GPS-degraded, and GPS-denied environments.\nWe are seeking a highly motivated engineering student to join our team. As a co-op, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research and development in robotics, autonomous navigation, and sensor fusion. You will contribute to real-world projects, applying your skills in algorithm design, machine learning, and embedded systems to enhance autonomy in challenging conditions.\n\nEssential Functions\nDevelop and implement computer vision-based localization, SLAM, or deep learning models for real-time navigation of UAS systems.\nAssist in integrating data from cameras, IMUs, GNSS, and alternative PNT sources for sensor fusion applications.\nOptimize and deploy navigation/autonomy algorithms for embedded systems, robotics platforms, or edge computing hardware.\nPerform simulation and validation of navigation algorithms using Python, C++, or Rust.\nParticipate in flight test campaigns to validate software and algorithms on UAS.\nWork closely with senior engineers on research and prototyping efforts.\nPerform other duties as required.\nStandard Essential Functions\nRegular and reliable attendance on a full time basis [or in accordance with posted schedule].\nResponsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal and external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company's policies and practices.\nEmbodies AEVEX’s cultural values and aligns daily actions with department goals and company culture.\nQualifications \nStrong programming skills in C/C++, Python, or Rust.\nExperience with ROS/ROS2.\nDemonstrated project or professional experience with one or more of the following:Computer vision and deep learning frameworks (OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow).\nAutonomy/planning algorithm development.\nControl systems design/analysis\nSensor fusion techniques (Kalman filters, particle filters, graph-based SLAM).\nEmbedded systems and real-time computing (Jetson, Raspberry Pi, FPGA, or microcontrollers).\n\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.\nExperience deploying software to robotic or hardware systems.\nEducation / Certifications\nCurrent enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar.\nExperience\nNo prior experience necessary.\n\nPhysical Requirements\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
