With our culture of commitment and professional growth opportunities, AFL will give you the opportunity to reach new heights and take your career to the next level.\nAFL has operations in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Europe, Asia and Australia and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujikura Ltd. of Japan.\nWe are hiring for an Equipment Operator - 1-Year Contract\nResponsibilities\nAble to read / understand construction plans\nResponsible for operating heavy equipment at construction sites in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.\nClean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by AFL policies and procedures.\nPerform pre-shift inspections, change attachments, lubricate, and refill equipment while performing other site duties as assigned.\nProperly reports any mechanical or safety problems with the equipment in accordance with company procedures.\nProactively communicate with foreman, superintendent and coworkers.\nComplete required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation as required.\nHeavy equipment operated at AFL include, but are not limited to, backhoes, track-hoe, skid steers, etc.\nPerform other site duties or functions, consistent with status or vocational ability as may be required from time to time.\nEnsure a safe work environment for our people, clients, subcontractors, and the public.\nRepresent AFL to the public in a manner that is consistent with corporate values and goals.\nLead by example.\nAdhere to and promotes the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL.\nPerform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.\nPersonal Qualities\nDetail oriented - accuracy is required\nIndependent - ability to work well under limited supervision\nResults focused - driven to achieve\nInterpersonal skills - ability to work well on a team\nQualifications\n1+ year of construction experience\nExperience in Utility Construction - ASSET\nAbility to understand and work with Utility locates.\nCapable of working in all temperatures and climates and in confined spaces\nAbility to travel to various site-based projects if required\nProficiency in driving with a loaded trailer an asset.\nWorking Conditions\nPhysically demanding workload\nWork location: Work in locations that preclude the ability to return home\nWork hours: Shift work (Weekend work is part of shift rotation)\nTraveling is required\nMinimum Education\nHigh School Diploma or equivalent\nClean driver’s abstract.\nPrevious Telecommunication/ OSP experience is an asset\nWhy Work for AFL\nWe Care: Our Employees are eligible to participate in our amazing Total Rewards Program which offers: Extended Health and Dental, Vision Care, Life Insurance, RRSP matching, Employee and Family Assistance Program and more.\nWe Include: AFL is an equal opportunity employer that’s committed to accessible, inclusive employment.\nWe Develop: We enthusiastically support learning and advancement opportunities for our team members.\nWe Reward: Abundant discounts with various retailers via our Work Perks Program.\nWe have Fun!
