AGCO is an American agricultural machinery manufacturer that designs, makes and sells tractors, combines, hay and forage equipment, sprayers, grain storage systems and precision agriculture technology. Its brands include Fendt, Massey Ferguson and Valtra, and its PTx precision agriculture arm develops guidance, autonomy and retrofit technology for farm equipment. Founded in 1990 and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, it is one of the largest farm equipment makers worldwide. The company is headquartered in Duluth, Georgia, United States.

PTx

PTx empowers farmers with reliable, user-friendly precision agriculture technology that enhances productivity, profitability, and sustainability throughout the agricultural production cycle.

About the Role

The goal of Autonomous and Precision Agriculture is to produce more crops with less effort, less impact on the environment and to address issues with labor shortages and sustainable growth.

Are you interested in working with a world leader in autonomous and precision agricultural machinery to redefine the future of the agricultural industry?

We are seeking a Tractor Platform Systems Engineer to join our autonomy engineering team in Brazil. This is a highly hands-on systems engineering role focused on adapting and integrating PTx autonomous vehicle technology onto agricultural machinery for the Brazilian market.

The initial focus will be adapting an existing PTx autonomy retrofit system, currently developed for John Deere 6M and 8R tractors, to the John Deere 7M platform. This will require developing a detailed understanding of the existing system architecture and designing, building, integrating, and validating the mechanical, electrical, and controls changes required for the new platform.

The engineer will work directly with tractors and prototype hardware, including mechanical mounting systems, wiring harnesses, sensors, electronic controllers, CAN networks, vehicle interfaces, hydraulics, and embedded control systems. The role requires troubleshooting across multiple engineering disciplines rather than within a single technical area.

Following the initial tractor platform integration, the role will expand into autonomous agricultural applications in Brazil, with an early focus on autonomous tractors and carts in sugarcane harvesting operations.

The engineer will be part of a small team in Brazil, working closely with PTx autonomy engineering teams in Nebraska and Winnipeg. The position requires someone comfortable taking ownership of loosely defined engineering problems, working directly with machinery, and carrying a platform from initial investigation through prototype development, field validation, and deployment.

Your Impact

  • Lead the integration and adaptation of PTx autonomous tractor technology onto new platforms, initially the John Deere 7M, including evaluating platform differences and required mechanical, electrical, controls, and vehicle-interface changes.
  • Design, prototype, and integrate tractor hardware and electrical systems, including mechanical components, mounting systems, wiring harnesses, sensors, actuators, controllers, power distribution, CAN networks, hydraulics, and vehicle control interfaces.
  • Commission and troubleshoot prototype autonomous machines, working across mechanical, electrical, CAN, embedded/ROS software, controls, GNSS, hydraulics, and autonomy systems to achieve functional operation.
  • Develop and execute engineering validation activities, using CAN data, system logs, measurements, and field observations to diagnose issues and verify safe, reliable system performance, while documenting designs, interfaces, installation procedures, and test results.
  • Support autonomous agricultural applications in Brazil, including sugarcane harvesting operations, while collaborating with engineering teams in Brazil, Nebraska, and Winnipeg and serving as a technical link between local field operations and the broader PTx autonomy engineering organization.

Your Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Controls, Robotics Engineering, or a related technical field; candidates with other educational backgrounds and strong relevant experience may also be considered.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience with mobile machinery, agricultural equipment, automotive systems, off-highway equipment, robotics, or similar electromechanical systems, with strong hands-on engineering and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience integrating and troubleshooting multidisciplinary systems, including mechanical, electrical, and software components, sensors, actuators, controllers, wiring, power distribution, CAN bus communications, and vehicle networks.
  • Strong systems problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation; diagnose complex system issues; and independently take problems through resolution.
  • Professional working proficiency in English and Portuguese is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hands-on, collaborative environment, including learning unfamiliar machinery quickly, working directly on tractors in workshop and field settings, communicating with geographically distributed engineering teams, and documenting technical work. A valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Brazil, with occasional international travel, are required.

Your Benefits

  • Medical and dental assistance;
  • Private pension;
  • Meal and food vouchers;
  • Life insurance;
