This effort will support the modernization of enterprise voice, data, and telecommunications infrastructure across a secure, multi-building government environment.\nThe Telecommunications Design Drafter will develop and maintain technical drawings using AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio, document existing telecommunications infrastructure, translate field-collected survey data into accurate engineering drawings, and support the development of telecommunications infrastructure designs based on legacy conditions, project requirements, and engineering direction.\nCandidates must live within a commutable distance of Washington, DC to work onsite full time or be willing to relocate to the Washington, DC area.\nResponsibilities Include:\nDevelop, update, and maintain telecommunications drawings and design packages using AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio.\nCreate and revise floor plans, telecommunications layouts, pathway drawings, conduit plans, rack elevations, cable routing diagrams, network diagrams, and infrastructure details.\nTranslate field notes, survey forms, sketches, redlines, photographs, pathway data, cable route information, telecom room documentation, and legacy records into accurate AutoCAD and Visio drawings.\nDocument existing infrastructure including building entrances, MDFs, IDFs, backbone routes, risers, cable pathways, rack layouts, patch fields, OSP routes, OSP-to-ISP transitions, and known constraints.\nSupport the development of proposed telecommunications infrastructure designs for fiber backbone, copper cabling, telecommunications pathways, MDF/IDF layouts, rack elevations, cable routing, and equipment placement.\nProduce detailed as-built drawings and construction-ready documentation supporting implementation activities.\nRead and interpret architectural, engineering, and telecommunications drawings to ensure design accuracy and consistency.\nCoordinate with engineers, project managers, and field technicians to resolve missing, conflicting, or incomplete survey information.\nIncorporate field redlines, engineering comments, QA/QC comments, and customer review feedback into controlled drawing packages.\nMaintain drawing version control, file naming standards, revision histories, and document management processes.\nIdentify pathway limitations, rack-space constraints, cable management concerns, incomplete documentation, and other issues affecting proposed designs.\nSupport preparation of survey packages, engineering drawing sets, implementation work packages, and final turnover documentation.\nEnsure all AutoCAD and Visio deliverables meet project standards, customer requirements, engineering specifications, and quality expectations.\nRequired Qualifications:\nActive Top Secret clearance.\nStrong proficiency with AutoCAD, including development and modification of telecommunications, infrastructure, and construction drawings.\nStrong proficiency with Microsoft Visio, including telecommunications diagrams, rack elevations, network diagrams, pathway layouts, and floor plan overlays.\nStrong proficiency with Microsoft Excel for schedules, document control, and tracking.\nExperience creating and maintaining technical drawings for telecommunications, structured cabling, low-voltage systems, network infrastructure, facilities, or engineering projects.\nExperience supporting telecommunications infrastructure design, structured cabling documentation, OSP/ISP planning, network modernization, or facilities modernization projects.\nAbility to interpret and update architectural floor plans, telecom drawings, engineering markups, field sketches, and redline documentation.\nExperience producing accurate as-built documentation and construction drawing packages.\nFamiliarity with MDFs, IDFs, telecommunications rooms, racks, patch panels, fiber shelves, copper patch panels, backbone cabling, horizontal cabling, cable tray, ladder rack, conduit, sleeves, pathways, risers, building entrances, and OSP/ISP transitions.\nKnowledge of structured cabling systems, fiber optics, copper cabling, cable routing, labeling, patching, rack elevations, and telecommunications infrastructure design.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.\nExcellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage drawing revisions across multiple buildings, floors, telecom rooms, and project phases.\nAbility to work onsite full time in Washington, DC.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience supporting secure federal, DoD, Intelligence Community, or other mission-critical environments.\nExperience supporting large-scale telecommunications infrastructure modernization or campus-wide structured cabling projects.\nFamiliarity with BICSI standards and structured cabling best practices.\nExperience developing telecommunications designs from incomplete or legacy infrastructure documentation.\nExperience coordinating with engineering teams and field installation personnel throughout project execution.\nPhysical Demands:\nAbility to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.\nAbility to carry laptops, drawing packages, documentation binders, or related equipment weighing up to 25 pounds as needed.\nAbility to access telecommunications rooms, project work areas, construction areas, survey locations, and secure work areas when required.\nMust comply with all site safety and security requirements.\nThe projected salary range for this position is $100,000+ annually.
