The Controls Engineer will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and external equipment suppliers to improve equipment reliability, production efficiency, safety, and overall manufacturing performance.\nThe ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex equipment and controls problems, has strong PLC and electrical controls experience, and can translate manufacturing needs into practical automation solutions.\nResponsibilities:\nControls & Automation Engineering\nDesign, develop, modify, and maintain industrial control systems for manufacturing equipment and plant systems.\nProgram, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC, HMI, VFD, servo, motion control, and other automation systems.\nDevelop and maintain electrical control logic, control panels, instrumentation, and associated documentation.\nSupport the integration of new equipment, machinery, robotics, and automated production systems.\nEvaluate existing equipment controls and identify opportunities to improve reliability, safety, throughput, and efficiency.\nDevelop and implement automated solutions to reduce manual processes, downtime, scrap, and production constraints.\nProvide controls engineering support for capital projects, equipment upgrades, and plant expansions.\nEquipment Troubleshooting & Reliability\nServe as a technical escalation point for complex electrical and controls-related equipment issues.\nPartner with Maintenance and Operations to troubleshoot PLC, electrical, instrumentation, sensors, drives, and automation problems.\nAnalyze equipment failures and develop corrective and preventive actions.\nSupport root-cause analysis of recurring equipment and controls issues.\nDevelop strategies to improve equipment uptime, reliability, and maintainability.\nProvide technical guidance and training to maintenance personnel on controls and automation systems.\nProject Engineering\nLead or support controls-related capital projects from concept through implementation and startup.\nDevelop project scopes, specifications, budgets, schedules, and technical requirements.\nWork with equipment suppliers, integrators, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects meet AGI requirements.\nParticipate in equipment FAT/SAT activities, commissioning, startup, and validation.\nEnsure new and modified equipment meets applicable electrical, controls, safety, and company standards.\nMaintain accurate engineering documentation, electrical drawings, PLC programs, HMI programs, and system backups.\nContinuous Improvement\nIdentify and implement automation opportunities that improve productivity, quality, safety, and cost.\nUtilize manufacturing data and equipment performance information to identify improvement opportunities.\nSupport Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives.\nStandardize controls architecture, programming practices, and equipment interfaces where appropriate.\nDevelop and maintain controls standards and best practices across the plant.\nEvaluate emerging automation technologies and make recommendations based on business needs and return on investment.\nSafety & Compliance\nEnsure controls and automation systems are designed and maintained in accordance with applicable safety standards and company requirements.\nSupport machine safety initiatives, including safety circuits, guarding, interlocks, emergency stops, and safety PLC systems.\nParticipate in risk assessments and safety reviews for new and existing equipment.\nPromote a strong safety culture throughout all engineering and equipment-related activities\nQualifications:\nRequired\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.\n3+ years of controls, automation, electrical engineering, or manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.\nHands-on experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.\nExperience with HMIs, VFDs, sensors, motor controls, and industrial electrical systems.\nAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics and control system drawings.\nStrong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.\nExperience supporting manufacturing equipment in a plant environment.\nStrong project management and organizational skills.\nAbility to work effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and external suppliers.\nWillingness to work hands-on in a manufacturing environment and respond to equipment-related issues when necessary.\nPreferred\nExperience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation PLCs and controls.\nExperience with Studio 5000 / RSLogix.\nExperience with FactoryTalk HMI/SCADA systems.\nExperience with Siemens or other industrial automation platforms.\nExperience with robotics, servo systems, motion control, or machine vision.\nExperience with industrial networking and communications protocols.\nExperience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical design software.\nExperience with machine safety systems and safety PLCs.\nExperience with MES, SCADA, or plant data collection systems.\nExperience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure is a plus.\nExperience working in the Fertilizer industry
