This is a key role focused on turning innovation development into manufacturable products by optimising Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, good product designs, and ensuring the successful industrialisation of New Product Introductions (NPI).\nYou will collaborate with R&D engineers, production technicians, quality and supply chain teams to maintain stable, capable, and efficient processes that meet the exacting standards for electro-mechanical devices.\nKey Responsibilities\nTurn R&D innovation into a manufacturable product; implementation of electromechanical development by working alongside R&D engineers: Mechanisms, PCBs, signal and power cables, microfluidics, sensors, etc\nProduct enclosure design with EMI/EMC in mind\nEnsure good practice in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).\nBuild and test prototypes to validate design and function.\nAnalyse and improve product assembly processes to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.\nLead compliance of products, such as CE Marking, EMC Testing, FCC, CSA, etc.\nDevelop and validate manufacturing tooling, jigs, fixtures, and measurement systems.\nDrive the industrialisation of NPI, product assembly instructions, and FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests).\nLead the NPI process from R&D to the Manufacturing team.\nProvide technical training to the Manufacturing team\nRequirements\n8+ years’ experience as a Mechanical Engineer/Design Engineer in electro-mechanical products or similar; ideally a background in medical devices, lab instruments, biotech and automation.\nProven track record of delivering products from concept to manufacturing with a focus on DFM and DFA, ideally in a high-volume manufacturing environment.\nAdvanced CAD modelling skills in SolidWorks.\nSkilled in creating and interpreting complex engineering drawings.\nA good understanding of Product Life Cycle management.\nExperience in cable design and cable routing for EMI/EMC.\nAdvanced knowledge in manufacturing techniques such as injection moulding, blow moulding, metal fabrication and machining.\nA good understanding of materials and surface treatments for chemical resistance and electrical conductivity.\nAbility to write product assembly instructions and technical documentation.\nHands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing methods and Six Sigma.\nExcellent presentation skills in PowerPoint and ability to communicate effectively to both technical and commercial stakeholders (Managers and Directors).\nAbility to visit various suppliers.\nOpen to international travel to visit manufacturing sites.\nDesirable but not essential\nExperience in Industrial Design / Product Design\nExperience with automated test setups of prototypes and Python-based test scripting\nExperience in automated manufacturing and assembly (robots and cobots)\nBenefits\nOpportunity to work on advanced chemical lab products, automation, and exciting innovative projects.\nSupportive and forward-thinking engineering environment.\nClear career progression pathways.\nCompetitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.\n25 days holiday per year (not including bank holidays)\nHybrid working (only 2 days a week in the office)\nPension scheme\nPrivate health insurance (AXA)\nDeath in service benefit\nEmployee health and wellbeing support (EAP)\nUnfortunately, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4369,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Health insurance","Hybrid work"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United Kingdom","iso":"GB","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-13T08:36:35Z"}],"liveness":{"score":22,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.489,"p_room":0.45,"age_days":38,"expected_fill_days":21,"reasons":["conf:11","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-10-01T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/agi-uk-npd-mechanical-design-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/agi-uk-npd-mechanical-design-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T20:38:07Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":3045,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":1955,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
