You will develop solutions across our full technology stack, including React applications, TypeScript/Node.js services, databases, and AWS infrastructure.\nWorking closely with Product Management, the Senior Engineering Manager, and cross-functional teams, you will translate complex business and scientific requirements into reliable, maintainable software.\nThe ideal candidate is comfortable navigating ambiguity, making sound technical decisions, and taking ownership of solutions from initial discovery through production support. You will also contribute to engineering standards, architectural decisions, and the technical growth of the team.\nKey Responsibilities\nSoftware Design & Development\nDesign, develop, test, and maintain full-stack applications using TypeScript, Node.js, React, and PostgreSQL. \nBuild and maintain APIs, independently deployed services, and integrations with internal and external systems. \nTranslate business requirements and technical challenges into practical, scalable solutions. \nContribute to software architecture, service design, and technical decision-making. \nDevelop reusable components and shared libraries that improve engineering efficiency and consistency. \nPlatform Reliability & Engineering Excellence \nImprove application performance, reliability, scalability, security, and observability. \nBuild and maintain cloud-based solutions and infrastructure within AWS. \nSupport automated testing, continuous integration, and deployment processes. \nParticipate in production troubleshooting, incident response, root cause analysis, and preventive improvements. \nApply engineering best practices through code reviews, documentation, and automated quality controls. \nCollaboration & Technical Leadership\nPartner with Product Management and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and define appropriate solutions. \nCollaborate with engineering, data, analytics, and scientific teams to support integrated business processes. \nWork with the Senior Engineering Manager to evaluate technical approaches and identify opportunities for platform improvement. \nMentor other engineers through technical guidance, constructive feedback, and knowledge sharing. \nCommunicate technical decisions, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. \nRequired Qualifications\n6+ years of professional software engineering experience developing and supporting production applications. \nStrong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js, including API development using NestJS, Express, Fastify, or comparable frameworks. \nStrong experience with React, including hooks, component architecture, state management, and application performance. \nExperience with PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases, including schema design, migrations, indexing, and query optimization. \nHands-on experience developing and operating applications in AWS environments, including relevant services such as ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, and CloudWatch. \nExperience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or similar tools. \nExperience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based development workflows. \nExperience implementing unit, integration, and end-to-end testing using frameworks such as Vitest, Testcontainers, Cypress, or comparable tools. \nUnderstanding of distributed systems concepts, including asynchronous communication, retries, idempotency, and failure handling. \nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. \nAbility to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver solutions in an evolving business environment. \nStrong written and verbal communication skills. \nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience developing Python-based services, APIs, or automation tools. \nExperience with geospatial technologies such as PostGIS, GeoJSON, or web mapping libraries. \nFamiliarity with event-driven architecture, Kafka, or comparable messaging technologies. \nExperience with structured logging, monitoring, error tracking, and feature management. \nUnderstanding of application security, authentication, authorization, and sensitive data protection. \nPractical experience using AI-assisted software development tools responsibly.
