Our apps run in the field - on construction sites, on real devices, often on bad networks - so this role is as much about designing tests that survive the real world as it is about writing them.\nYou'll design and implement automated tests, shape our mobile test architecture, integrate quality checks into CI/CD, investigate failures, and decide what testing strategy each part of the product needs.\nAbout AI Clearing\nAI Clearing is a technology company transforming how large-scale construction projects are monitored and managed with AI.\nOur platform is used on major construction sites around the world, supporting the delivery of solar farms, pipelines, transmission lines, roads, and other complex infrastructure. We hold ISO 42001 (AI management) and ISO 5259-3 (AI data quality) - both world-firsts - alongside ISO 27001, 9001, and 45001.\nWe're a global, fast-growing team with a flat structure, a strong ownership culture, and plenty of room to make a real impact.\nYour Profile\n3+ years in software testing, with at least 2 years writing and maintaining test automation yourself\n\nStrong practical Kotlin or Java - enough to design a framework, not only extend one\n\nHands-on experience building and maintaining Appium test suites (Appium 2.x, UiAutomator2 and/or XCUITest drivers)\n\nComfortable with the platforms underneath: adb and logcat, emulators and simulators, app installs and permissions, reading a crash log\n\nSolid grasp of test design and test architecture - page objects, reusable fixtures, test data strategy\n\nExperience testing REST APIs, both manually (Postman or similar) and from code\n\nA clear view of where each check belongs across unit, integration, API, and E2E - and why slow, fragile E2E suites are a trap\n\nExperience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and defining quality gates\n\nEye for UI detail and understanding of mobile UX patterns, design systems, and component libraries (e.g., Figma).\n\nComfortable with Git and modern development workflows\n\nA structured, analytical approach to flaky tests: reproducing them, isolating the cause, telling a test bug from a product bug\n\nA collaborative mindset and clear communication - it's what would help, not a checklist.\nReal-device or cloud device farms (BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, Firebase Test Lab)\n\nNative frameworks: Espresso or XCUITest\n\nCharles Proxy or Proxyman - intercepting mobile traffic, throttling, rewriting responses\n\nTesting offline and poor-network behaviour, or other field conditions\n\nTesting map-heavy or image-heavy UIs\n\nAgile ways of working (Scrum or Kanban)\n\nISTQB certification (Foundation or Advanced)\n\nA degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field\n\nSQL, Docker, or cloud environments\n\nPerformance testing or observability tools\n\nYour Role\nDesign, develop, and maintain automated tests for our Android and iOS apps and the APIs behind them\n\nBuild and improve our mobile test automation architecture in Kotlin or Java with Appium\n\nChoose the right level of testing for each product risk, and avoid over-reliance on slow, fragile E2E tests\n\nRun suites on emulators, simulators, and real devices, and keep them fast and stable in CI\n\nIntegrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines and define quality gates\n\nAnalyze results, investigate failures, and eliminate flaky tests\n\nCreate reusable test utilities, fixtures, test-data strategies, and shared components\n\nUse device logs, developer tools, and network proxies to investigate UI, API, and connectivity issues\n\nWork with developers to improve testability -
