Responsibilities\n\n- Design, develop, and maintain database architecture, data structures, tables, and naming conventions to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of all data master files\n\n- Establish, monitor, and maintain backup and recovery procedures, ensuring business continuity and minimal disruption in the event of a system failure\n\n- Implement and enforce database security protocols, integrity controls, and access management policies to safeguard sensitive organisational data\n\n- Administer and maintain comprehensive database documentation, including guidelines, policies, and operational procedures, ensuring these remain current and fit for purpose\n\n- Plan and perform database upgrades, patches, and migrations, including thorough testing, debugging, and issue resolution in accordance with approved quality assurance processes\n\n- Monitor database performance on an ongoing basis, identifying bottlenecks and implementing tuning, indexing, and optimisation strategies to maximise efficiency\n\n- Collaborate with developers, systems analysts, and business stakeholders to translate data requirements into effective and scalable database solutions\n\n- Analyse existing database systems and workflows, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance reliability, performance, and maintainability\n\n- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for database-related incidents, working to resolve issues promptly and minimise operational impact\n\n- Ensure database environments comply with relevant data governance frameworks, privacy legislation, and organisational standards, including alignment with Australian Privacy Principles where applicable\n\n- Assist in capacity planning activities by assessing current usage trends and forecasting future storage and performance requirements\n\n- Support the development and maintenance of data integration processes, including ETL pipelines and data warehouse environments, in collaboration with cross-functional teams\n\n## Required Qualifications & Skills\n\n- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience\n\n- Demonstrated experience in a Database Administrator or similar role, with hands-on responsibility for managing enterprise-level database environments\n\n- Proficiency in one or more leading relational database management systems, such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL\n\n- Strong working knowledge of SQL, including query writing, stored procedures, functions, and performance tuning\n\n- Experience designing and implementing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies in production environments\n\n- Solid understanding of database security principles, including user access controls, encryption, and audit logging\n\n- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex database performance issues through monitoring tools, execution plans, and indexing strategies\n\n- Familiarity with data modelling techniques and the ability to translate business requirements into well-structured database designs\n\n- Sound understanding of IT service management practices and experience working within structured change management processes\n\n- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting\n\n- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with both technical teams and business stakeholders\n\n## Preferred Qualifications\n\n- Relevant vendor certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional, or equivalent\n\n- Experience with cloud-based database platforms, including Azure SQL, Amazon RDS, or Google Cloud SQL\n\n- Exposure to NoSQL database technologies such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or Redis\n\n- Experience in data warehousing environments and familiarity with ETL tools and processes\n\n- Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation of routine database tasks\n\n- Familiarity with DevOps practices and experience working within Agile or ITIL-aligned environments\n\n- Prior experience in a regulated industry such as finance, healthcare, or government, with an understanding of
