Based in our Netherlands office located in the Rivium in Capelle aan den IJssel, you will be part of our Portfolio solutions team of currently 14 enthusiastic professionals within the Portfolio Solutions department.

About the role

As a business Development Underwriter you will play a key role within our Portfolio Solutions team. The Team focuses on expanding AIG’s presence in the SME segment by offering accessible and efficient insurance solutions through brokers and authorized agents (Volmachten).

Combining underwriting expertise with a strong commercial mindset, you will develop new Financial Lines portfolio arrangements and optimize existing ones. You will work closely with our distribution partners to identify market opportunities, strengthen relationships, and deliver profitable portfolio growth.

How you will create an impact

• Your relationships with brokers and authorized agents will be key to your success. You will need to provide excellent service through a consistent, timely, and proactive approach to underwriting. You will also aim to generate new business by expanding your broker network, attending broker events, and building new relationships across the market - in line with a sales plan established with your manager.
• Contribute and be responsible for (a part of) Portfolio Solutions growth target and provide accurate monthly management information including rationales behind submissions statistics, bind rate, average premium, and total premium.
• Continuously identify and develop best practices and procedures plus look for new ways to improve the service and product offering. And support in departmental product development efforts within the scope of AIG’s product development guidelines.
• You will be responsible for assessing new and renewal business for your respective focus area.

What you’ll need to succeed

• Underwriting experience (minimum 3 years) in Financial Lines is required.
• A good understanding of the Dutch Financial Lines marketplace as well as the authorized agents marketplace.
• Strong communication, networking and relationship building skills.
• Good organizational and time management skills.
• Customer and Sales orientated behaviours: motivated, tenacious, focused, technically skilled, proactive, and accountable.
