AIG

American International Group is an insurer founded in Shanghai in 1919 that grew into one of the largest financial institutions in the world before its near-collapse in 2008, when losses on credit default swaps written against mortgage securities forced the largest government rescue of a single company in American history. It has spent the years since dismantling that conglomerate, separating its life and retirement business as Corebridge and selling numerous units, and it now concentrates on commercial property and casualty insurance. Headquartered in New York, it is a considerably smaller and simpler company than the one that failed.

Are you an insurance professional looking to specialize in some of the most complex risks in the Nordic market?

We are looking for a Financial Lines Underwriter to join our Nordic team, based in Stockholm. In this role, you specialize in Management Liability (MLC), handling high-stakes products like Directors’ & Officers’ Liability (D&O), Crime, and Employment Practices Liability (EPL).

You will join a truly pan-Nordic setup. While your desk is in Stockholm, you are part of a specialized MLC team with colleagues in Denmark, Helsinki, and Stockholm. You will work with a Nordic mindset, focusing primarily on the Swedish portfolio but also supporting operations across the region.

What’s in it for you?

You will be part of a "Learn-It-All" culture that values expertise and freedom with responsibility. Here is what you can expect:

  • Nordic Integration: You get the best of both worlds - a strong local professional environment in Stockholm, and a Nordic team, working across borders and silos to ensure the best solutions for our clients.
  • Complex Portfolio: You will work with diverse and complex clients, giving you the opportunity to utilize and further develop your technical underwriting skills.
  • Autonomy: We trust you to manage your own portfolio, negotiate with brokers, and make sound underwriting decisions with support from the team.
  • Competitive Package: We offer a competitive salary, bonus plan, pension, and 30 days of annual vacation to ensure a healthy work-life balance.

Your impact and responsibilities

Your primary focus is to drive profitable growth and service our existing portfolio in Sweden and the wider Nordic region. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Underwriting Excellence: Assessing risks, structuring programs, and pricing policies within D&O, Crime, and EPL.
  • Broker Relationships: Acting as a trusted commercial partner for our Swedish and Nordic brokers, delivering solutions that meet client needs.
  • Portfolio Management: Ensuring the profitability and growth of your assigned book of business through rigorous analysis and proactive renewal management.
  • Strategic Support: Contributing to the broader Nordic strategy by identifying trends and opportunities in the market.

What you’ll need to succeed

We are looking for a profile with a strong foundation in insurance who is ready to specialize further. We believe you are a match if you:

  • You have experience working with Financial Lines products - maybe you are already an Underwriter or you have gained experience with our products through Claims Handling, as a Broker, or from complex UW Operations.
  • Possess technical interest and knowledge of Management Liability products (D&O/Crime).
  • Are fluent in English and a Scandinavian language.
  • Have strong negotiation skills and enjoy the commercial aspect of the job.
  • Are structured, analytical, and able to work independently in a matrix organization.

Meet the Team

You will report to the Financial Lines Manager for Sweden & Finland (based in Stockholm). You will be part of a fully integrated Nordic MLC team with colleagues across Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. In the Stockholm office, you will sit alongside experienced professionals from other lines of business, ensuring a vibrant and social work environment. We believe that we win as a team, operating with flat hierarchies and freedom with responsibility.

How to apply

No need for a lengthy cover letter - send us your motivated CV, including a short section on your motivation and fit for the role.

We will be reviewing applications on an ongoing basis, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
