American International Group is an insurer founded in Shanghai in 1919 that grew into one of the largest financial institutions in the world before its near-collapse in 2008, when losses on credit default swaps written against mortgage securities forced the largest government rescue of a single company in American history. It has spent the years since dismantling that conglomerate, separating its life and retirement business as Corebridge and selling numerous units, and it now concentrates on commercial property and casualty insurance. AIG’s underwriters develop insurance solutions that address the exposures of companies and individuals, and embody AIG’s tradition of innovation, bringing to market ground-breaking insurance

solutions for our changing world. AIG’s underwriters help to find insurance solutions for risks from a range of areas including life insurance, aviation, financial lines, casualty, environmental, catastrophic

events, high net worth individuals, and boardroom liabilities.

This role will contribute to the growth of UK Financial Lines by: driving the business plans for our E-trade business development through - Underwriting new and renewal business on our E-Trading platforms; developing and maintaining relationships with existing brokers; assisting in product development and thought leadership; and executing the annual FL strategies.

We are pleased to be recruiting for an Underwriter to join our high-performing e-trade team to;

  • Meet individual underwriting expectations to help team achieve budgeted financial objectives.
  • Underwrite within agreed decision making standards, limitations, and underwriting authority
  • Assess desirability of risk through analysis of financial reports and accounts (as required)); regular contact with broker; thorough review of proposal; and review of claims history and general company information
  • Use designated Underwriting system(s) to streamline underwriting and information-tracking approach across Profit Centre. Input required data consistently and accurately
  • Provide accurate monthly Management information including, but not limited to, submissions, bind rate, average premium, and total premium as required
  • Provide excellent service to brokers through consistent, timely, and proactive approach to underwriting
  • Exhibit sales orientated behaviours, defined by Management as: motivated, tenacious, focused, technically skilled, proactive, and accountable
  • Build relationships with brokers by attending broker events
  • Ensure all brokers and clients are treated fairly
  • Ensure customer-centric approach
  • Ensure contract certainty
  • Conduct self-audit as required
  • Ensure compliance with key regulatory and risk management responsibilities

Position Requirements:

  • Some underwriting experience is desired in Financial Lines, PI, D&O and/or Cyber experience would be ideal; other relevant professional experience may substitute for underwriting experience
  • Acturis or other online platform experience would be advantageous but not essential, the role is primarily an underwriting one.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Time management - ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced environment, organise work and meet deadlines
  • Driven by customer service
