The role will be based in Calgary, AB and plays a critical part in advancing the organization’s global investment strategy by supporting our existing internally managed global equity portfolio and contributing to evaluating prospective opportunities (new sub-strategies and/or mandates).Reporting to the Director, Global Fundamental, the Associate Portfolio Manager will work in close collaboration across the broader Active Equities team - which includes Alpha Strategies, Global Fundamental, and Fundamental Equities Research - on emerging and existing investment opportunities for AIMCo and ultimately our clients. The successful candidate will work across the full investment lifecycle, including sourcing ideas, collaborating closely with the research team as ideas progress through the underwriting process, and executing and implementing investment ideas. This role requires a strong focus on portfolio construction, position sizing, and risk management.\nThe position demands deep investment expertise, strong relationship management capabilities, and sound commercial judgment, along with the ability to represent a leading investment manager in complex, high-profile environments while working with a broad network of internal and external stakeholders.\nResponsibilities Include:\nAssist in day-to-day portfolio management of a multibillion-dollar, multi-strategy global equity portfolio with a fundamental value-oriented implementation framework. This includes trading and portfolio construction decisions, and risk monitoring and management.\nFrequent interaction with other Portfolio Managers across internally managed equity strategies as well as regular collaboration with research team members on prospective and existing ideas.\nParticipate in the idea generation and investment due diligence process for relevant positions and strategies.\nProvide cross-sector and cross-geography perspectives on global equity markets, with a keen focus on highlighting pockets of opportunity on both a relative and absolute basis.\nAssist with relevant equity capital markets engagements, co-investments, and bespoke investment processes, including establishing and developing relevant relationships.\nPromote a culture of continuous learning and improvement, innovation, and high performance.\nCollaborate with internal departments across AIMCo, including Legal, Risk, Valuations, Compliance, Sustainable Investing, and Client Relations, on a variety of internal processes.\nCollaborate with other asset classes across AIMCo on relevant investment opportunities, themes, and research.\nRepresent AIMCo externally and be an engaged communicator of the Public Equities and Active Equities investment strategy and objectives.\nInteract with company management teams, equity research analysts, other sell-side contacts, industry experts, and other investors as appropriate.\nOur Ideal Candidate Qualifications:\nMinimum 6 years of institutional investment experience, ideally including some direct portfolio management experience.\nSophisticated knowledge of portfolio construction is required.\nExperience with long-term investing in a concentrated portfolio motivated by rigorous fundamental analysis.\nStrong academic background demonstrating thoughtful and inquisitive curiosity and ongoing skills development. Relevant financial designation is highly desirable (i.e. CFA).\nExperience short selling and hedging is considered an asset.\nExperience and success managing bespoke direct investments is considered an asset.\nDemonstrated experience in the design and implementation of directly managed public equity portfolios is considered an asset.\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills.\nExcellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across geographies and functions.\nA strong team player with a passion for collaboration, development, and mentorship.\nAbility to balance multiple priorities, work independently, lead projects and thrive in a high-performance team environment.\nHigh degree of judgment, integrity, and professionalism, with comfort operating in a highly visible role.\nAbility and willingness to travel as required.\nSuccess Measures:\nEstablish trust and internal relationships with other Portfolio Managers and research team members to foster high calibre debates and discussion across prospective and existing investment opportunities.\nStrengthens the Active Equities team through unique investment insights, rigorous due diligence, and debating key points for an investment thesis.\nEnables the Global Fundamental team to continue growing both in breadth and depth while maintaining a strong and consistent long-term track record.\nDemonstrates leadership by example, grounded in disciplined investment decision-making, robust processes, and a high degree of analytical honesty.\nCatalyzes continuous improvement across the team through a reflective and thoughtful approach to long-term investing.\n**This role will close November 20, 2026 @ 11:59 pm (MST) **\nNext Steps\nWe are excited to meet you.
