With a state-of-the-art production facility in Poland, an HQ in Stockholm, Sweden, and hubs across the UK, Germany, and Italy, Aira is well on track to install clean energy-tech into 5 million homes by 2034. \nAbout the role\nWe're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team.\nAs Aira grows, more teams rely on data to build products, make decisions and run their day-to-day operations. One of our biggest challenges is helping teams move fast without creating unnecessary complexity for everyone else.\nThis role sits right in the middle of that challenge.\nYou'll help build, improve and scale the platform that teams across Aira depend on. Some days you'll be working on pipelines and platform capabilities. Other days you'll be discussing architecture, helping teams solve problems or figuring out how to scale ways of working that made sense when we were smaller.\nThe role combines strategic thinking, stakeholder management and hands-on engineering. If you enjoy building things while also influencing how an organisation works with data, you'll feel at home here.\nWhat you'll do\nBuild, improve and maintain Aira's data platform\n\nDevelop and operate batch and streaming data pipelines\n\nWork with domain teams to establish and evolve data serving pipelines\n\nHelp teams own and manage their data assets through our Data Mesh approach\n\nEnable analytics engineers and domain experts to build data products, self-service analytics and data science solutions\n\nMake it easier for teams to build, run and maintain data products\n\nHelp teams avoid solving the same problem in ten different ways\n\nImprove reliability, governance, observability and platform performance\n\nContribute to architectural decisions and the long-term direction of the platform\n\nExplore new technologies and approaches when they solve real problems\n\nWho you are\nYou have several years of experience within Data Engineering and have worked with production systems at scale.\nYou've probably seen different ways of solving similar problems, whether that's through product companies, consulting or working across multiple teams and domains. Your background might be in data engineering, platform engineering, backend development or infrastructure.\nYou're comfortable moving between implementation details, architecture discussions and conversations with stakeholders.\nYou understand that building a successful platform isn't only about technology. Different teams have different priorities, constraints and ways of working. A big part of the role is helping us find solutions that work well across the organisation while keeping things practical.\nYou're comfortable explaining technical trade-offs, helping teams understand why decisions matter and building support around a shared direction.\nSometimes you'll help teams move faster. Sometimes you'll push back on an approach that creates unnecessary complexity or long-term problems.
