You’ll be at the core of our Payload Handling Unit (PHU) software and hardware - powering payloads, orchestrating data capture, and ensuring rock-solid reliability in space and flight.\nYour responsibilities in AIRMO\nYour tasks will include, but are not limited to:\nDesigning, writing, and maintaining real-time firmware on STM32 (bare-metal and RTOS) for power sequencing, current monitoring, and fault shutdown\nDeveloping and optimizing Linux applications on NVIDIA Jetson (ARM) for high-throughput data handling\nIntegrating and coordinating data streams from USB cameras, UART/CAN sensors, and CameraLink frame grabbers\nImplementing precise trigger logic and timestamp synchronization using GNSS modules and PPS signals\nInterfacing with IMUs, RTCs, environmental sensors, and other payload peripherals\nBuilding and running unit/integration tests, hardware-in-the-loop benches, and automated validation suites\nImplementing and debugging Cyphal (CAN-based) protocols and YAMCS Mission Control interfaces\nCollaborating closely with hardware, optics, and mission operations teams to integrate software into end-to-end payload systems\nDocumenting firmware architectures, APIs, test plans, and validation results with clarity and rigor\nYour profile\nThe ideal candidate will have:\n- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent hands-on experience\n- 5+ years of embedded software development, preferably in aerospace, robotics, or other high reliability domains\n- Expert-level C/C++ skills for bare-metal and RTOS environments\n- Proven Linux application development on ARM platforms, including cross-toolchains and kernel extensions\n- Hands-on integration experience with:\n- GNSS timing modules\n- Inertial sensors, real-time clocks, environmental sensors\n- High-speed interfaces: USB, UART, CAN, CameraLink\n- Solid understanding of power management, current sensing, and hardware fault protection\n- Familiarity with Cyphal and YAMCS or comparable ground-control frameworks\n- A “hacker” mentality: rapid prototyping, creative problem-solving, and a willingness to dive into schematics or PCB layouts when needed\n- Fluency in English\nThe minimum requirements for applicants include:\n- Ability to spin up a FreeRTOS task faster than your morning coffee brews- Skill to cross-compile and flash STM32 firmware blindfolded\n- Comfort troubleshooting interrupt priorities and memory constraints on the fly\n- Enthusiasm to learn about the NewSpace or Climate tech\nWhy us?\nThis is a rare chance to build real software that will fly beyond the edge of the atmosphere - and bring critical Earth-observation payloads to life. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, write mission-critical code, and help shape the future of space-based instrumentation, we want to hear from you.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3020,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":true},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"English","level":"Advanced (C1)","optional":false}]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Electrical & Electronic Engineering","Earth Observation","Petroleum & Mining Engineering","Oil & Gas"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-25T23:53:43Z"}],"liveness":{"score":8,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.232,"p_room":0.35,"age_days":97,"expected_fill_days":30,"reasons":["conf:14","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-10-01T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/airmo-senior-embedded-systems-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/airmo-senior-embedded-systems-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-02T03:27:59Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":4842,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":158,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-03T00:00:00Z"}}}
