Read our operating principles to see it in full.\nHow you'll make impact\nAs an Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the architecture, development, and operation of platform systems that support Airwallex’s global treasury and payment products. You’ll manage and develop a high-performing engineering team, strengthening team health, execution quality, and long-term technical outcomes.\nSet technical direction, guide key architectural decisions, and deliver scalable, reliable, and high-performing services.\n\nPartner closely with engineering, product, and cross-functional stakeholders to shape platform strategy, prioritise effectively, and deliver capabilities aligned with customer and business needs.\n\nContribute to code reviews, technical problem-solving, and critical implementation work where needed, while maintaining high standards for engineering quality, reliability, and operational excellence.\n\nUse data and system insights to improve platform performance, reliability, and team effectiveness.\n\nSet technical direction across a distributed engineering team by leading design reviews for platform-wide changes, collaborating with engineering hubs across the US, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.\n\nYou’ll work from our Seoul office five days a week.\nWhat we're looking for\nEssentials\nProven experience leading high-performing engineering teams.\n\nStrong software engineering and system architecture background, with 10+ years of experience in modern engineering environments.\n\nStrong programming or scripting skills in a language such as Java, Kotlin, C++, Python or a similar language.\n\nStrong technical judgment and experience guiding teams building scalable, reliable systems.\n\nA bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.\n\nStrong cross-functional collaboration and execution skills.\n\nHigh ownership, sound prioritisation, and adaptability in fast-paced environments.\n\nA data-driven, customer-aware, and quality-focused approach.\n\nPreferred\nExperience in fintech, payments, or other regulated financial domains.\n\nDeep experience with JVM-based ecosystems, including Java or Kotlin with Spring or Spring Boot.\n\nPrior experience leading teams responsible for high-availability, low-latency systems.\n\nTrack record of leading complex, ambiguous technical initiatives from design through delivery and operation.\n\nYou'll thrive here if\nYou’re comfortable owning the roadmap yourself.\n\nYou’re comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and moving quickly anyway.\n\nYou’re comfortable acting as a bridge between the local team and our global colleagues, sharing context clearly and helping both sides work effectively as one team.\n\nYou say what you mean.
