With campuses in Sherman Oaks, Beverly Hills, and Simi Valley, CA, along with distance education programs that reach learners across the nation and around the world, AJU is a private, nonprofit institution of higher education offering degree-granting and for-credit academic programs, as well as community-based (non-formal academic) learning opportunities. AJU offers a variety of degree-granting programming, such as fully online programs in early childhood education at the BA, MA, EdD, and certificate levels, as well as an EdD in Jewish Education and Communal Leadership. The University also offers an in-person MA in Rabbinic Studies and ordains Conservative rabbis. In addition, AJU delivers for-credit online supplemental undergraduate programming to high school students and teens nationwide. In 2024-25, the University enrolled 150 full-time equivalent (FTE) students across all programs.\nPosition Summary\nThe position of Teaching Assistant for the Jewish Learning Experience (JLE) supports the faculty, facilitators, and administrators of the JLE by grading assignments, discussion boards, and assessments. The Teaching Assistant also provides feedback to program Administrators and Faculty regarding student work, curriculum, and course elements. This position is a 1 Academic Year Contract that may be renewed on an annual basis. The JLE Academic Year is from August through June.\nEssential Duties Summary:\nEvaluate and grade JLE assignments, which may include Knowledge Checks, Midterms, Final Exams and Extra Credit, within designated timeframes or deadlines.\nProvide clear and constructive feedback to students based on provided rubrics and grading guidelines.\nMaintain consistency and fairness in the grading process. \nEnsure student confidentiality and adhere to academic integrity and AI-related policies. \nParticipate in monthly meetings with JLE Administrators and Faculty regarding grading issues, students-at-risk, or unclear submissions. \nPrepare a year-end report which includes overarching themes seen in student work, questions and/or concerns that were regularly submitted, suggestions for curriculum modification and other relevant data and/or feedback.\nRequired Qualifications:\nA bachelor's degree in Judaic studies or other related area from an accredited institution. \nPrior experience grading or tutoring, with prior teaching experience highly preferred.\nAbility to work independently with minimal supervision.\nDemonstrated strong written and communication skills.\nExperience with online learning platforms, experience with Canvas by Instructure is preferred. \nSupervisory Responsibilities: None\nPlease note that this job description is not meant to cover or include all the tasks, duties, and responsibilities the employee may be required to perform, and may be subject to change at the company’s discretion, with or without notice or contemporaneous update to this document.
