We do this while maintaining Akamai's mission at the forefront of what we do: make life better for billions of people, billions of times a day.\nPartner with the best\nAs a Senior Site Reliability Engineer in the Virtualization & Host Platforms (VHP) - Server Enablement & Qualification (SEQ) team, you will be at the forefront of Akamai Cloud compute host and server technologies. VHP is responsible for all Linux platforms from the hardware to the host and guest platforms, and SEQ in particular works closely with next-generation HW teams to enable new hardware via our network bootstrapping service, provide seamless firmware upgrade models, and work with other VHP teams to provide a cohesive and performant solution to our internal infrastructure customers and operators to ensure all servers succeed in our datacenters.\nYou will have opportunities to write software automating our processes, help diagnose and resolve challenging production issues, advance initiatives to improve resource utilization and customer experience, and learn from a highly skilled engineering team. This position will require creative thinking combined with deep domain expertise in the areas of Linux systems engineering, performance tuning, hardware interfaces, systems administration, and configuration management.\nAs a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for:\nDeveloping, testing, and distributing changes to software, services, and tools the VHP team is responsible for.\nDesigning and implementing enhancements to VHP observability infrastructure in order to identify and correct problems before they impact our customers\nDeveloping subject matter expertise in VHP components.\nComfortable working in new tooling, code and environments and automating what’s possible.\nCollaborating with our support, operations and engineering teams to investigate and troubleshoot complex problems\nParticipating in on-call rotations, guiding restoration and repair of service-impacting issues\nDo what you love\nTo be successful in this role you will need:\nAdvanced level experience in Linux internals, system administration, and a deep understanding of underlying hardware. \nAdvanced level experience with the Linux kernel and OS and an understanding of virtualization technologies (KVM/QEMU).\nAdvanced level experience with designing, developing, and deploying software and infrastructure at scale\nSkills identifying whether hardware-test failures originate from firmware, BIOS/UEFI configuration, device firmware, kernel/driver behavior, or the physical test environment \nSkills using Python and shell scripting to independently implement solutions,\nAdvanced level experience in a Development or SRE role, preferably working with large scale distributed systems.\nExperience with tools like SaltStack, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet for managing infrastructure at scale\nGreat communication and collaborative skills.\nRelevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.\nAbout us\nAt Akamai, we make life better for billions of people, trillions of times a day.\nWhether you're streaming live events, scrolling social media, watching your favorite series, or managing your savings, we're the engine behind the scenes.
