This position works closely with customers, clinic veterinarians, other veterinary technicians, and customer service staff.\nEssential Job Duties:\nAssistreceptionists with triage and incoming patients \nPerform \"pre-exams\" on incoming patients and gather brief medical histories \nPerform laboratory tests and take radiographs \nHandle, calculate and track controlled substances for large volumes of surgical patients\nEffectively pre-medicate, induce, intubate, and monitorall patients as necessary\n\nMonitor anesthesia, recognize and respond effectively and safely to abnormalities\nAbility to communicate effectively to veterinarians about the condition of a patient and any pertinent information\nDispense medications per doctor's orders\nAble to glove and assistin surgery as needed using proper aseptic technique\nEffectively run a surgical team and maintainorganization of surgical flow when appropriate\nHandle medical calls when needed\nEnsure prompt and accuratepaperwork procedures are followed each day \nCommunicate with clients/owners about status of patients as directed by the veterinarian \nParticipate in client education on the health of their pets \nKnowledge and ability to intake and release patients, including delivering post-operative instructions in a competent and friendly manner\nAble to respond appropriately during an emergency, able to take directions from a veterinarian and direct others during the event, and maintaincompetency during CPR procedures\nEffectively assistin training of Veterinary Assisting and Veterinary Technician I staff\nParticipate in all staff and technician mandatory meetings\nHelping to keep the hospital clean, doing laundry, cleaning cages, etc.\nMust exhibitprofessionalism in behavior and performance at all timesby:\nMaintaining excellent interpersonal relationship skills in dealing with coworkers\n\nCommunicating in an effective and professional manner with customers and coworkers \n\nRepresent Alaska PAWS in a professional and courteous manner at all times\n\nOther duties as assigned by supervisor\nPreferred Skills/Abilities:\nCommunicate in a clear, friendly, concise, understandable manner \nAbility to relate with clients in a friendly and professional manner \nPerform work with speed and accuracy while remainingcalm in emergency situations \nExceptional organizational skills, an eye for detail and the ability to multitask \nWork collaboratively and effectively with coworkers\nAdaptable to changing schedules and occasional unexpected needs\nMinimum Qualifications:\nHigh school diploma or equivalent\nThree years’ experience working as a vet tech \nPreferred Qualifications:\nKnowledge of veterinary clinic procedures and terminologies\nKnowledge of companion animal welfare issues and sterilization \nLicensed Veterinary Technician\nPhysical Requirements:\nAbility to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time\nMust be able to move/lift upto 50 pounds at time\nFrequent bending and standing throughout the day\nJob Status:\nNon-exempt; Full time: 40 hoursa week\nCompensation and Benefits\n$22.50- $26.17an hour, depending on skills and experience\nPaid vacation, sick, and holiday leave in addition to 3 paid personal days annually.\nDental and vision coverage\nSIMPLE IRA retirement plan\nDiscounted clinic services in addition to free vaccines and spays/neuters for your pets.\nDisclaimer\nThe Alaska PAWS is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to a work environment that values diversity and inclusiveness.
