The ECC receives all 9-1-1 calls in the area and serves as the central dispatch for the three local police departments, three rescue squads and fire calls. The ECC is a nationally recognized center, having earned CALEA Accreditation as well as being designated as an APCO National Certified Training Program and Virginia Accredited Emergency Medical Dispatch Communications Center.\nWellness & Resiliency Coordinator\nThe Wellness & Resiliency Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle Emergency Communications Center (ECC) coworkers. This role leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of wellness and resiliency programs tailored to the unique stressors and challenges faced by frontline coworkers.\nThe coordinator will serve as a champion for mental health, fostering a culture of psychological safety, peer support, and proactive intervention. The goal is to reduce crisis incidents, enhance staff coping strategies, and create a sustainable, resilient workforce.\nEssential Functions & Responsibilities\nDesign and manage a comprehensive wellness and resiliency program for ECC coworkers.\nProvide confidential support and resource referral for staff experiencing personal, professional, or trauma-related challenges.\nBuild and maintain partnerships with mental health professionals, EAP providers, and peer support networks.\nSupport coworker overall well-being by identifying and addressing stressors that can affect job performance and mental health.\nDevelop and implement strategies that mitigate the psychological impact of repeated exposure to high-stress or potentially traumatic incidents, while strengthening employee resilience through healthy coping practices, peer support resources, and structured stress-reduction programs.\nFacilitate training and workshops on stress management, trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and other wellness topics.\nCreate and distribute educational materials to promote mental, physical, and emotional health.\nMonitor trends in coworker wellness and respond with data-informed interventions.\nCoordinate critical incident stress management (CISM) debriefs and follow-up care after high-impact events.\nProvide guidance and support to Peer Support Team.\nServe as a liaison between ECC leadership, HR, and staff to ensure wellness initiatives align with organizational goals and coworker needs.\nMaintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all applicable privacy and ethical guidelines when handling sensitive issues.\nStay current with best practices and emerging trends in public safety wellness, trauma resilience, and peer support approaches.\nResponds to major incidents or disasters to serve as a wellness resource to emergency personnel.\nMaintain required related documentation and reports. \nOther duties as assigned.\nEducation and Experience\nBachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, human services, public safety, or a related field, or five years of relevant experience in mental health, wellness coordination, crisis intervention, or employee support roles; experience in public safety or emergency communications is preferred.\nStrong knowledge of trauma-informed practices, stress management techniques, and resiliency frameworks.\nCertification in peer support, CISM, or wellness coaching preferred; willingness to obtain required certifications if not currently held\nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities\nUnderstanding of how trauma impacts individuals, particularly in high-stress occupations like emergency communications.\nProficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook to support reporting, presentations, program management, and communication.\nKnowledge of mental health concepts, self-care strategies, and wellness program development.\nFamiliarity with Incident Stress Management (CISM), Psychological First Aid (PFA), and suicide prevention.\nAwareness of operational stressors unique to emergency communications and first responders.\nUnderstanding of all related privacy laws including HIPAA, and ethical considerations in coworker support roles.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.\nSkilled at fostering trust and rapport with staff, leadership, and community partners.\nComfortable working in a fast-paced, emotionally intense setting.\nPossession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.\nMust maintain a good driving record based on standards set by the insurance carrier (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).\nPHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS\nOccasional operation of County-Owned vehicles for travel to locations throughout the county and further is required. \nThis position is considered essential personnel and is subject to being held over, or called back for disasters, local emergencies, or special events.\nFrequent contact with the public, police, fire, and local government agencies requiring diplomacy, tact, or discretion.\nTHE SALARY RANGE\nThe total annualized expected hiring salary range for this position is $63,664-$70,366.
