This position has a term length of 1 year plus 1 day.

Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton, South Campus Edmonton, and Campus Saint-Jean.

The position performs a vast number of duties using heavy, light and small equipment, as well as hand tools and manual labour. These duties include the maintenance and construction of (but are not limited to); hard/soft landscaping, pond maintenance, furnishings, signs, snow removal, irrigation installation and repair, pruning, special event set up and take downs, miscellaneous task and daily repairs/maintenance on equipment used for each task listed above. This position also includes a variety of delivery and procedures that call for adjustments in work schedules to achieve objectives. Due to the array of tasks that are required to be completed daily, majority of the day is spent outside of the department. It is crucial that operators are alert, use caution and have clear visuals of all hazards and safety concerns that can

occur when working within large crowds and onsite traffic. The position also calls for quick adaptability and responsiveness to last minute requests or situations that may arise.

  • Heavy & Light Equipment Operation: Operate a variety of heavy, light, and small equipment (such as road graders, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, and wide-area mowers) to execute complex, multi-site groundskeeping tasks.
  • Landscape Construction & Maintenance: Perform skilled and semi-skilled manual labor related to hard and soft landscaping, including site preparation, excavation, sod installation, planting, and concrete base preparation.
  • Seasonal Grounds Operations: Direct snow and ice removal procedures across sidewalks, roads, and parking structures during winter, and coordinate comprehensive clean-up campaigns during the spring and fall seasons.
  • Infrastructure & Facility Upkeep: Install, modify, and repair on-campus irrigation lines, site furnishings, commercial fencing, regulatory signage, and perform routine maintenance or diagnostics on assigned work equipment.
  • High School Diploma plus two years on the job to learn the specific job duties and tasks, as well as the standard operating procedures. Also for the exposure to the variety of heavy/light/small equipment and tools used.
  • Good working knowledge and communication of the English language (written & verbal)
  • Skid Steer Certification
  • A valid Alberta Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s license is required.
  • Must be able to provide a recent copy of a three-year driver’s abstract with no more than six (6) demerits and/or two (2) moving violations within the last two years.
  • Courses and/or experience in the following areas would benefit the incumbent in the performance of their duties.
